If economics was just about the most efficient surviving, things would be much simpler.  But non-perfect substitute goods alone makes that a flaw assumption for any industry except agriculture.  Even a simple two good monopolistic competition model means that the more inefficient can survive indefinitely.  Or do you think that Coke and Pepsi have been equally efficient for decades?

Agriculture, the astute reader will note, is a very manpower light industry in the developed world but uses most of the scant manpower it does use in very unproductive ways.  And even in agriculture we see huge diversity, not a single conglomerate.

^^ Those.

People crack me up when they act like the US Constitution is holy writ. Or that we're the only country with one. American exceptionalism at its derpiest.

Also:
Quote from: Morrigi link=topic=122640.msg5633013#msg5633013
I would also be entirely unsurprised if Russia decided to arm the rebels for shits 'n giggles.
Morrigi confirmed for Russian-backed separatist. Drone strikes authorized.

Seriously...look back at what you wrote and tell me you don't sound like somebody who should be on an FBI watch list.

I get it, I do. These little Turner Diaries type fantasies of armed overthrow of an elected government are how y'all blow off steam and they're mostly harmless mental masturbation. Mostly. Until you get that McVeigh brand of nut who doesn't realize that this is all just a big joke and actually starts blowing shit up.

Liberals who feel powerless and discontented organize marches and sit-ins.
Conservatives who feel powerless and discontented have communal wet dreams about starting a second American Civil War.
Yet another stream of vaguely offensive non-arguments. How am I not surprised?
Two questions for you:

1. Are you seriously considering armed rebellion against the government of the Unites States?
a. If so, expect a visit from your friendly local FBI.
b. If not, then why so butthurt that I don't take it seriously?

2. Do you not see the comic irony that you're holding out hope for the viability of a hypothetical armed rebellion through Russian support? You guys call Obama a socialist and a tyrant, imply that that assertion alone gives you some kind of moral authority to usurp the democratic process through force of arms, and then you're looking for help from a guy like Putin (who actually *is* a Communist and a tyrant)??

I'll give you a well-reasoned, respectful argument when you can provide a talking point that deserves one.
Since when is discussing the possibility of an armed rebellion equivalent to supporting it? Also, please find the part where I said that it would be constructive for the political image of the rebels for Russia to be arming them. Hint: You won't find it.

To expand on the point I made about Russia arming American revolutionaries, it could be a godsend to Russia for the U.S. to fall into the chaos of a second revolution or civil war, and, quite honestly, it would be make sense for them to attempt to weaken the government militarily as much as possible. And, since you seem to be having trouble with the idea, just because I'm discussing it does not mean I support it.

I was gonna say something, maybe about GavJ's mode of society that relies on uninvented technology and how like I said before that's like a mode of society that relies on Jesus coming back but the poster above (Above angle that is) has me thinking sergal pirates.

That would make for an interesting international situation.

Technology has been steadily and reliably improving for hundreds/thousands of years.

Jesus has been reliably coming back for no years.

(Actually Jesus is not doing such a great job of reliably existing in the first place from available evidence, but we don't need to really go there)

The president is supposed to be the only one who has access to the codes that allow the missiles to be launched, without those codes, the missiles can't be launched.

Launching nukes on itself is like trying to fix a paper cut with a sledgehammer rather than a bandage.

I just think about how the US has the largest military budget in the world, and 9 out of the 11 aircraft carriers, and tend to think "Mmmmm yeah we don't need nukes to handle a rebellion".

And then we have railguns, and attack helicopters, and fighter jets, and tanks(SO MANY TANKS)...

Yeah those aircraft carriers are going to be super useful against street riots in New York.

First, every armed rebellion in the US since Shay's rebellion has failed miserably. Secondly, there won't be any armed rebellions in the near future, because the US population is just against that sort of thing in general (other than a small population that says it likes it).

Now, anyway, what do you guys of the conviction of Bob McDonnell? First conviction of a Virginia governor ever, and seems to be shaking the Virginian political landscape.;

Historians will probably ascribe waaaay too much importance to it later.  With the changing demographics of Northern Virginia I can easily imagine that democrats will run the state for the next twenty years and the conviction rather then demographics will make for a more interesting story.

Dude, we were about 5 minutes away from an armed rebellion just a few months ago. Remember the whole Bundy ranch incident?
