Yeah elections never change anything.

If you say something that's stupid without evidence it's considered intelligent as long as you are being blindly cynical rather then optimistic.

I have to say, for a political cartoon it's very heavy handed.

On a more serious point, what is that even suppose to be mocking? That the two parties are in reality the same? The doom and gloom that political opponents advertise when they lose in an election and people taking it serious? A general 'take that' at mainstream voters?

The wonderful thing about cynicism is that you just toss it out there and then claim you were saying whatever sticks.

My dad often mentions the old greek city states when he talks about the word democracy, for the record.

So let's restrict the vote to male Greek citizens who have served in the military.

Let's hope your country has enough Greek soldiers, or you'll never get anything done! D:

So let's restrict the vote to male Greek citizens who have served in the military.

Let's hope your country has enough Greek soldiers, or you'll never get anything done! D:

states by greek ancestry:

New York 159,763
California 125,284
Illinois 95,064
Massachusetts 78,176
Florida 76,908
New Jersey 61,510
Pennsylvania 56,911
Ohio 53,547
Michigan 44,214
Indiana 32,319

Which I then used with the number of male vets from here: http://www.va.gov/vetdata/veteran_population.asp
and the population total from here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_U.S._states_and_territories_by_population

To give us the estimated number of citizens:

New York   6710
California   5262
Illinois   4943
Florida   4307
Massachusetts   3987
Pennsylvania   3813
Ohio   3748
Michigan   2741
New Jersey   2645
Indiana   2230

Extrapolating this rate of citizenship to the population as a whole gives us about 67000 total.

Seems like our democracy is gonna be hella liberal.  The franchise would also be much smaller.  Direct democracy could be feasibly be brought to a lot of issues where it wasn't feasible before.  Electoral districts would need to be abolished, the constitution specifies that you need at least 30k citizens in a district and not even New York comes close to that threshold.

You're welcome.

Interesting poll. Americans tend to prefer environmental preservation to economic growth, except in times of severe economic decline, and were overwhelmingly in favor of the environment before the issue became a partisan political one.

This article, about the steady decline of Pacifica, and it's comments section... oh god, nothing in recent memory has done as much as this comment section to convince me that our country is fucked. The American Left, as an organized entity, really is a pathetic fuckup in so many ways.

So Obama is visiting Brussels. The 1-day visit is costing us 10 millions euros and gridlocking the whole city, while he flew in 900 people, 30 cars, 7 helicopters and we had to deploy several hundreds policemen just to care for him. How do you guys put up with him 300+ days a year?

A big part of that is the Secret Service being themselves during overseas visits. Back in the homeland he doesn't make as disruptive of waves.
