I'd vote for him.

You should hear some of his quotes.

I thought that was news a while ago? I guess it's re-news-ified by his admittance, but still, I watched him smoke crack on video.

Bonus: Torontophiles can say "Is our mayor on crack?!" and be serious. I know I've been driving down the road and wondered if our city planner was on crack.

Better question is if Toronto's been better off with him as mayor.

-snip-

Rob Ford had been vehemently denying the fact that he has smoked crack before his announcement, and has been trying to do damage control for weeks now. And by damage control I mean anonymously defending himself on radio stations and having a crony defend Ford on a talk show in the most contrived manner possible (still looking for that video, sorry about that). It's rather comical how Rob Ford's damage control has been.

I recall that a video had surfaced of him smoking it was acquired by the police; the Police Chief stated there wasn't enough evidence to convict him, but that "as a citizen, I am embarrassed". He hasn't openly admitted to smoking crack up until now, but his drunken stupors are very public and well-known.

Fun Fact: When the Toronto police were investigating Ford's friend/driver for drug trafficking, Rob kept on popping up. And by popping up I mean that they kept on meeting eachother in gas stations, parking lots, parks and even the woods behind the mayor's house. *sigh* What a silly scandal.

1. This man wins the 2013 Brass Cajones award, narrowly edging out Don "Lazy Blacks" Yelton.

What about Marion Barry?  Cocaine use, DUI, corruption, racism, staggering incompetence and all that's before he went to prison.  After he got out, he returned to office.

Like everything Canadian, Ford's just a more polite redux of the american version.

Can someone explain to me how, exactly, a clear video of the crime in question combined with a verbal confession is NOT enough evidence to level charges? Seriously? Toronto Police must be the worst at their jobs in a good chunk of the country if tha's not enough to bring someone to trial...

Taking drugs isn't illegal.  If they don't have proof it was his then they don't have proof that a crime was committed.

Except it is, under the (Canadian) Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, where possession doesn't require you to have purchased it, and being seen smoking it is generally accepted as irrefutable evidence of possession. It's sentence is significantly less than for trafficking or production, but it still allows for a "maximum $1000 fine for first offence and/or maximum 6 months imprisonment" for simple possession - which holding it and smoking it falls under.

No, see, Ford didn't possess it. He stole it from a crackhead, and promptly smoked it so the crackhead couldn't get it back.

Ugh, and on all the Canadian websites and news websites I've seen comments on this on, it's just comment after comment of:

"OH YEAH GO AFTER FORD WHAT ABOUT THAT LIBERAL WHO SMOKED POT ONCE HUH HUH WHAT ABOUT HIM? HE WAS THE ONE WHO WAS WRONG, LEAVE FORD ALONE!"

With a winning margin of 480 votes, the Virginia Attorney General election is officially headed for recount.

All in all, this has been a very successful year for the Democrats for all that has gone on. Besides the above, the only election that really went against them was the New Jersey Governorship, and that was a longshot to begin with.

As for my municiple elections, it was a total progressive victory. Not exactly surprising given the environment.
