http://news.yahoo.com/analysis-trademark-vigor-justice-scalia-dissents-dna-case-193959366.html

I hate it when Scalia is right. It just makes everything else he does seem so incomprehensible.

Scalia can be better understood with the acknowledgment of his judicial philosophy. If it's written there in the Constitution, black and white, plainly approving or disapproving, he will always tow that line.

The thing is, a lot of the cases the Supreme Court deals with aren't directly written about in the Constitution at all, causing him to immediately revert to far-right activist judge mode.

How's Austin? I've heard it the best and weirdest part of Texas.

By all reports from friends, Austin is great.

Unfortunately, I've never been there. I'm stuck in a 'less great' area.

A sign that indicates terrorism is has been winning all along, despite rhetoric: White House considers spying on US Citizens 'critical' tool for fighting terror.

Sounds like something that will fall easily during appeal.

Nevertheless, Another reason not to live in the south. Hey you want to know what I learned Yesterday? The 2 poorest States are Mississippi and Alabama. The 2 states with the highest Obesity rates or Alabama and Mississippi. The 2 states with the lowest literacy rates are Alabama and Mississippi. The 2 states that are the most conservative are Alabama and, North Dakota/Wyoming (tied.), actually, but Mississippi comes a close fourth.

Also, this is so shocking even the comments agree for once. This is truly a red-line.

And now, in New York, it's a felony (with up to four years in jail) to annoy a police officer. Technically it's only in combat with some sort of physical contact, but I'm betting the police will provide that half if you manage to annoy them.

Welcome to America The South. We only encourage and enable this shit. I think I know the reason he holds onto his gun as the only method for solutions and needs to pay for prostitutes, because he's a loser.

Anonymous Just Leaked a Trove of NSA Documents

Quote
In the wake of last night’s revelation that everyone in the world has a creepy NSA-shaped stalker, defenders of online liberty and generally angry internet people Anonymous have leaked a treasure trove of NSA documents, including seriously important stuff like the US Department of Defense’s ‘Strategic Vision’ for controlling the internet.

Edit:  Aaaaaand got the files.  The first link is broken and the first 4 mirrors were crap, but I got them.  I think I'll be reading through these at work tonight.

Sure hope someone proposes getting rid of the Patriot/Post-911 surveillance state laws instead of standing on soapboxes over these things. You know, all those bills the senate passed and continue to re-authorize. Then they get mad about the encroachment on our rights, stand on their soapboxes for votes and travel the media to tell how outraged they are, then recess and do nothing about the underlying policy-making bills.
