Conscripting Dorfs for establishment of a new Fortress
« on: February 04, 2013, 06:59:12 pm »

You heard me right!  I'm in need of 6 Dwarves with a deathwish desire to serve their clan.  Recent survey teams have discovered an ideal location, and the King has provided funds for a small group of his subjects to establish a new stronghold in the hostile land.

The first 6 applicants meeting the needed criteria will be accepted.  Any other dwarves interested in risking their lives aiding our brave expedition can sign up further below, and once we have struck into the earth and established a secure location to work from, message will be sent to the mountainhome and you may begin joining us.

1 farmer
1 wood cutter
1 carpenter
1 stone crafter
1 doctor
1 chef

Please attach notice to this board with the name you prefer to be called, and which profession you will be bringing to our doomed proud expedition.
Once all 6 positions have been filled, others can sign up by simply leaving their name.

Letters will be sent to the mountainhome with progress of the stronghold whenever is convenient for me.  Busy busy, and all that.

I'm doing a world as simple fun here.  Sign your name and I'll put you into the game, for as long as it lasts.  My main goal with the world will just be to have fun typing up reports and seeing what happens.  Hopefully nobody very few deaths will occur.  But reality may dictate otherwise.

Any questions are welcome as well.
After initial dwarves are taken, I'm willing to add others, but the migrants don't always pick smart jobs.  Be prepared to begin life as a Fisherdwarf.

I will embark once the initial slots are filled up!  Or in a day or two if they don't all fill up (in which case, those dwarves will remain available).

What are you talking about!? Fisherdwarves are the backbone of civilization! (or my civs, at least)

Go ahead and name that fabulous stonecrafter Chaosgear, if you please.

I always seem to end up with a magnificent burial complex and nowhere near enough bodies to fill it, or far too many bodies and nowhere to put any of them.

Fisherdwarves may be the backbone of civilization.  But only because they don't have the skills to be the head or hands.
And I would be less bitter about them, if they didn't comprise 50% of my migrants every game.  Them and Animal Handlers.  Must be the only dwarfjobs you can get with their GED.

If any of the dwarves have 'sword' ('dastot') in their name, I'll take them. ;)
If none of the starting seven have that in their name, I'd like to request the first weaponsmith to immigrate or be trained on-site.
Also, community fortresses like this belong in DF Community Games & Stories.

Do you have the embark selected, yet? Will it just be a generic wilderness location, or near a tower/in an evil biome?

I assumed "community games" was any game that was actually being passed around, not just for sharing of stories.  I will leave this thread here, but post the actual story stuff(after starting the game) over there.

I've got an embark selected (river, waterfall, cavern), but I'm genning worlds trying to get something FUN.
Aiming for as many of the following as possible:
nearby tower
volcano
flowing water bigger than brook

While keeping at least 1 non-aquifer tile, some trees, flux, and clay/soil.

Yeah, the 'Community Games' section is for community games and succession games. Only the latter are the ones which get passed around. Good luck with the necromancers.

I'll make a great doctor! I know that the best time to take a break is right after the hunter comes in crippled from a badger attack.

You seem to be under the impression that we're playing some game other than dwarf fortress. It doesn't matter how powerful you make a creature, we will find a way to destroy it. God is dead, and Urist killed him.

Game will most likely be started sometime tomorrow.

And yes, towers suck :P
But I'd rather have a risky fun game then a boring easy one (at least until seiges and other delayed-FUN).

Also, tower probably won't happen, as most worlds don't gen very many.

Well, as long as you get to treating his wounds
  • after your break
  • after you get a quick drink
  • after taking a nap
  • after breakfast
  • after your after-breakfast drink
  • before he dies
  • when you feel like it

swordsmith, you have been dwarfed.  A dastot arrived :)
All the story is going on in the other (proper) thread, as well.

They are good for distracting sieges to get your really important dwarves inside, yes.

Can I claim dibs on the stonecrafter?

Rock trinkets are the core of many an initial embark, until you need the rocks for masonry and get the murder industry going.

Elves do it in trees. Humans do it in wooden structures. Dwarves? Dwarves do it underground. With magma.
