Would it be okay if we roleplayed out some of the planning phase in brief flashbacks? I mean, there are a lot of things our characters would think of that we wouldn't (until just now I didn't really think about who should take the lead in exploring the ship). I can say that I, personally, would not use this as an opportunity to plan any more than I should have been able to. I just see it as a way to make our characters not seem so incompetent as to have not planned for the most basic of circumstances.

I like the sound of this.

Just a quick note. Akito has the Lore: Omens skill and I'd bet Leera might too. If you have a strange dream, you should try and get it interpreted.

What types of mutations would you expect from the taint?

They range from incredibly obvious to almost-normal.
Turning you into a twisted animal person, glowing eyes, misshapen limbs, extra fingers and toes, extra eyes or limbs, discolored skin, tentacles, and black blood are just a few examples.

Edit: In other news, there are indeed shortwave radios in the envirosuits. They only transmit on one frequency, though.

In fairness, I doubt any of us have experience with/knowledge of the taint/shadowlands, since such is very likely kept under tight wraps by the Empire (and possibly even illegal): even for you and me, it was probably well above our pay grade.

I would have thought that anyone with a past in the Imperial navy (or any branch of the Imperial Military) would have at least knowledge of the Taint, if not fought it before and/or possibly seen comrades fall to the corruption of the taint.

Most certainly no in depth knowledge, but enough to scare them thoroughly.

Make sure to bring back samples if possible, for Science.

Taint and the shadowlands are likely considered by most of the common people to be akin to the bogeyman. It sounds horrible, but there's no way it's true, right?

Of course, as PCs you might know better.
Or maybe you don't.

I wrote that post before I saw this one... So I guess Homura just never heard of it.  :P

I'd imagine that if anyone knows, it'd be our batshit glorious captain, though, since he's ostensibly studied such things.

You've been added to the wait list.

Edit: Also, in other news- If you didn't specifically post something to the effect of "I am remaining behind", you're probably on the boarding crew.
