I can't find magma!

I've dug down to about level 1 and there IS NO MAGMA! I passed through the general 3 caverns on my way down, but I couldn't find anything. What do I do?

Have you hit SMR? Sometimes you will encounter SMR that doesn't have magma above it. I suggest that you move a few z-levels up and then try digging sideways.

There are negative levels.  Level 1 is not the bottom.  I don't know why.

I went up about 10-z levels and I'm digging across and there's still NOTHING. Grr.

The caverns end at about floor 28. There is something wrong.

Delve deeper. When in doubt, delve deeper, be greedier, gather more wealth, seek out the treasures deep in the earth. That can only end well for dwarfs.

As it sounds you managed to dig all the way down through an small or large area which has no magma sea. So yeah. Either dig sideways
or dig an new way down, becuase there will be magma seas, very large ones, youc ant be far away of them that for sure.
