That's what I did. I figured I was lucky enough to have one pretty good start position, so it was better to use my rovers to get the lay of the land before I plopped down any new ones.

Yeah, I podded my first town.  I'm not sure if its because of my surrounding terrain or maybe I'm just crazy, but I swear moving one tile per turn seems excruciatingly slow, like way slower than I remember playing in single player?

I did not. In... 6, turns, I think? I will be up to 4 cities. It will be nice. It will take weeks, but it will be nice. ;)
