SMAC MP Game: Turn 100! Partial Map Inside

So I've always loved this game, and I think it'd be nice to play it with some of you guys.

We will be playing SMAC, not SMAX. Please download and install patch 4.0

Turn Counter

Standard rules apply:
Those found to be cheating (by the GM, me), will be kicked and banned.
If you're unsure what counts as cheating, contact me first.
I am counting exploiting rush-buying as cheating, by the way.
Don't be a dick.
Player agreements will not be enforced by the GM.
Please also read these rules.

Settings:
Ocean, erosive, native, cloud: average
All victories enabled
No blind research
Size: Large
Difficulty: Thinker
No Co-operative Victory
Do or Die disabled

I'm down!  I just recently got it and have been playing it but I still really suck.  It's fun as hell though.  Sucking is FUN.

I'd be willing to try. Not really good at anything but terraforming the hell out of my land and building stuff, but hey that's a pretty big part of the game. This will be PBEM, right?

Faction: I dunno. I'll see when we get there. The Human Hive, maybe?

Difficulty: I'd prefer Talent or at the most the one above that. I'm not that experienced with this game.

Oh yeah, I was planning on trying for TCP/IP for 2-3 hours per weekend, but if everyone is happier with PBEM that's fine.

Seems interesting. Do note however that I have no idea how to play this game. (I know Civ games of course, but this'll be one of the first times I'll play this game).

Edit: I'd think I'd go for the dedicated tech faction*.


*University thingy, right?

Well, I'd rather not have complete newbies play. If you can play half a dozen solid games against the AI by the time we start you should be fine though.

I'd say doing some research and then 2 or 3 games combined with some more looking into tactics would be MORE than enough. A half dozen solid games? Seems a bit like overkill to be honest, unless they are ultra-small maps with accelerated tech.

I've played a LOT of this game and I'm not sure if I've got "a half dozen solid games" under my belt. :P

haha yeah :p winning a dozen times on citizen is nowhere near as hard as winning on transcend, though.

Not playing on citizen though.

Also, read through the tech list. It's quite interesting.

Yeah some of the videos and descriptions for secret projects are downright terrifying. That won't stop me from getting the awesome bonuses, though :D

Also I want to advocate for SMAX - extra secret projects, extra sea improvement facilities, extra techs, extra races, extra awesome.

Also there's an option for a turn timer, I'm planning on having it at the highest setting - 45 seconds or (4*bases+4*units) seconds, whichever is higher.

SMAX is fine with me, never really play without it. Map size - sure, large sounds fine. Also, for the turn things, again I would prefer PBEM. I don't really decide my own schedule and would prefer to get the game in as I can, and I'm not really sure if I can guarantee my presence for the TCP/IP.

All of the extras in SMAX are extra terrible, extra broken, and extra boring. SMAC had a wonderful balance and a finely tuned theme, and SMAX blew that to smithereens. I'd vote against.

I'd love to play though, assuming no SMAX. Might be best to have one session where we can all show up for the first several turns if we can and then switch to PBEM. But PBEM is fine, even though I've never done it before.

What are victory conditions going to be, esp. in regards to allied victories? You say "all victory conditions", but I think everyone allying right off the bat would be against the spirit of the game... :P
