have you patched to the linked version?

multiplayer -> hotseat/PBEM -> load, right? or load and h/pbem might be the other way around.

Yeah, patch applied and all. Just don't have any hotseat/PBEM option. Only options I have under Multiplayer are the three different types of Direct Play :(

apparently hotseat wasn't in the first version but is in the patched and SMAX.

do you have SMAX installed?

No, I don't have a copy of SMAX. But I did download and extract the patch. It's confusing. Let me doublecheck something.

Edit: Figured it out. It was installing/unzipping to the wrong folder. Let's hope it works now...

Edit: FINALLY. Windows 8 was refusing to give me permission to extract. Got it though.

Edit: Uh... is there a reason why we start with a city? I am REALLY confused right now. D:

There's a game option that toggles starting with a city/starting with only colony pods. I guess we're starting with a city.

And it's off to Twiggie! (who's probably asleep)

If there's a message about me tampering with the game, I apologize. I accidentally quit out the first time I loaded up the game, so I had to load it up twice :-[. It won't happen again.

In the now-dead EFS PBEM game that I was playing for a while we made a point of posting a notification every time we completed a turn, which resulted in a lot of clutter in the thread, but it did let us see at a glance where the save was. Plus people seem to check the forums more often then their own email, so it helped to move the game along. I've got Thunderbird to ding every time I get new mail, so it doesn't matter too much to me, but do you guys think we should adopt that rule?

I think we should also use it as an opportunity to RP!

Kiera looked down at the fledgling colony spread out across the hillside in front of her. Dutiful people, working hard to build a righteous tomorrow, struggling in an alien environment to do the right thing. Unity. The ship that brought us here, but also the force that will hold our people together and lead us to prosperity. This will be Unity Capital. The future is bright.

Note that the patch will automatically install to C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri... even though, if you're on a 64 bit computer, Alpha Centauri gets installed to C:\Program Files (x86)\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri.

Correct that and the patch should be installed. I ran into that myself, hard to catch.

I always install to my D drive anyway :D so i didn't encounter that problem

I have 1.5 hours of lab time left, then I have to do a piece of coursework and go shopping then I'll get straight on that game :p

Yeah, PTTG has successfully identified the exact problem I had. Made worse by the fact that Windows 8 doesn't actually let you extract files to the (x86) directory. (I had to extract to my desktop and manually copy it over in order to get the permissions prompt)

What do you guys think about using something like this to manage saves and turns?  I just put them in dropbox, and used goo.gl to shorten the url and linked it in the spreadsheet :

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AsGfojY8FgAldG1EVU9mVFRGWlNaUUVnVENkS0FWemc&usp=sharing

I didn't make anything fancy, just a concept, feel free to edit it how you see fit.  But it's a nice way to see where the turn stands and make the saves available, will also prevent clutter on the thread of turns being complete?

Also, its public right now, so if this is something you guys would be interested in, we should probably lock it down so only those playing would have access....

apparently i need to make it clear: no diplomacy until you have actually met someone - a unit next to their base or unit on unit. needlejets do not count for contact.
moreover, no calling councils until you have met everyone. (ofc building the empath guild counts for contact).

lastly, im not sure how contact will work via diplomacy (selling channels to other players). you are allowed to make a cash gift to a player in return for a comlink to another player, of at least one credit. the turn AFTER you have finalised the trade, you may contact the player whose link you bought.

please keep all saves in case somebody cheats and we need to prove stuff.

ninja: we'll need to consider that, postal. basically boils down to how much we trust each other to not poke around in saves that aren't ours.
