Help with Garry's Mod please
« on: February 01, 2013, 06:29:25 pm »

I just got Garry's Mod. I've wanted this game for years but I'm having some problems:
  • My FPS is really low, dipping to about 3. How can I fix this? I've got a NVidia GForce 9500 GS with the latest driver installed, if that helps.
  • How do I use wiremod?
  • What version of spacebuild should I get?
  • Why do i keep seeing ERROR all over DarkRP servers?

Try turning the graphics right down.
How do you use, or how do you install wiremod? To install, search wiremod in steam workshop. To use, there should be tutorials out there because wiremod is quite extensive.
If you are getting giant 3D ERROR's everywhere, it generally indicates you are lacking resources (often in the form of other source games like CS, TF2 etc). If you own these games, download them.

As for spacebuild, I am not sure.

Spacebuild? Whatever version the server you want to join is using. I don't know if 3 is still the latest, it's been a while for me.

I'm out of the loop on GMod.

I don't know if the Phoenix model pack is included in Gmod 13, but if it isn't (it is simple plates, boxes, barrels, wheels, etc. Nearly nothing is textured, too.), you should search for that and download it. What other Valve games do you have? The main ones tend to be HL2 and episodes and CS:S (CS:GO too, probably.)

I don't think Wiremod is on the Workshop, because it doesn't allow open-source stuff or something like that.
There are downloaders out there for it, or you can use any SVN or Git client.

I looked at the workshop the other day, and was disappointed to not find all the things that you need to use svn to download. What's the point of the workshop if you can't use it to make it easier to get things that are a pain to get?

Apparently there is one small clause in the Steam Workshop agreement that makes it incompatable with the open source addons like Wiremod, and Valve refuses to respond.
