creature occupying site?
« on: February 01, 2013, 01:49:52 pm »

I am keep getting a cancellation message, due to 'creature occupying site'... however, there is nothing on this or any of the surrounding tiles. Any ideas how to solve this? its kind of important, since this fortification tile is a key piece of my defense.

This happens semi frequently since Toady fixed it so that dwarves won't wall themselves in when constructing things.  What's happening is a dwarf is trying to build the fortification while standing on it.  I always have to remove the fortification, then redesignate it for construction.  Just unsuspending the job never works for me.

Removing and re assigning did the trick(simple suspend/unsuspend didn't work) thanks.

I have had success when building walls, i.e. not getting the cancellation, by restricting traffic both on the wall tiles, to be built, and behind them. I literally have not received that message in a long, long, time.

I made a thread about it as well.

Apparently when there were ramps nearby or adjacent they would rather stand on the square trying to build.

Try to remove any ramps and check it again.

In my case there was no ramp. I had

..f..
..x..
..f..

.- floor
f- fortification.
x- the tile with problem.

No other construction orders or dwarfs other than the builder, but there was a stockpile just to the left of the fortification.

the problem has been around ever since the new build direction change, with or without ramps, it's just something to deal with
