(OP's Note: When I loaded the ROM, it dropped me to when I saved shortly after catching Tara instead of in the cutscene from the end of the last update. Thus, I had to play a little behind-the-scenes catchup, during which I met some new Pokemon. Like Deoxys. A level 6 Deoxys in Petalburg Woods. That was fun
We're all caught up now though, so let us resume the story. Oh, and please note the section in bold; that's a legit question I'm asking.)
Part 10: YarrrrAt the time, I had no idea why this guy was just talking to himself in the middle of the woods. My initial reaction was that he was just crazy, which caused a bit of concern when he noticed me and strolled over. Turns out that he was looking for a Pokemon called a "Shroomish", which made me think he was on drugs as well as being crazy.
forever, didn't you?"
Suddenly, a pirate showed up! He began yelling at the crazy guy (who the pirate called a "Devon Researcher". Apparently he's a crazy scientist) and demanding papers.
Wha?! Don't hide behind me, I'm just a kid! Every scientist I've met so far is a coward
The pirate decided that enough was enough and attacked me with his Pokemon, declaring himself to be a member of Team Aqua! I had no choice but to pull out my own to defend myself.
He just had one of those mean Poochyena dogs, so it wasn't too much trouble. It
was a plain dirty fighter however, throwing sand into my Pokemon's eyes repeatedly.
With his single Pokemon defeated, all the Aqua Grunt could do was throw a few cheap taunts my way before running off. The Devon Researcher gave me a Great Ball as a reward for protecting him and his important papers, so I guess it was worth it. Then he ran off, screaming about some crisis.
Anyway, I made my way through the rest of Petalburg Woods. I battled a couple of trainers (who all had bugs, for some reason) and met new interesting Pokemon.
Like this guy. He's cool-looking, but I already have Tara, so I don't need another fire-type for now.
See? Fire turtle > fire lizard.
These saplings block part of the path. Thankfully, the exit to the woods is north and I'm not trapped in here, but my gamer sense detects treasure on the other side of these trees!
Out of the woods! Hopefully Rustboro isn't too far away.
While I was plucking berries from some nearby trees, a kid about my age came up and offered to teach my Pokemon how to spit watermelon seeds. I declined, but he gave me a CD anyway and told me that it could teach one of my Pokemon a special attack. I took the CD, but I'm more than a little dubious.
Suddenly I realized that although I had gone through Petalburg Woods, I was still on Route 104. Could I catch more Pokemon here, or did Wattson still fulfill my quota? I resolved to ask about the matter at the next Pokemon Center, and avoid further patches of tall grass until I could learn more.Once again, I sense loot on the other side of one of these saplings...
A pair of creepy twins block the way ahead. Am I gonna have to fight them both?
Apparently I am!
Say what now. I must have had beginner's luck or something, because despite never having done this before my Pokemon took almost no damage. Wattson even became capable of causing damage, learning Quick Attack!
I made it! Time to check out the sights!
