Part 3: A Friendship is ForgedAlmost there...
AGH! Something's coming after me!
It's some sort of big bug. Hopefully Champ can squash it...
I picked a winner. Wonder what else is on this route?
Awww, it's so cute! 83

Thankfully, we made it back to Littleroot Town without encountering any more devil foxes. Mom was able to fix Champ right up, but I was scared. I knew that wild Pokemon could be dangerous, but I've been a trainer for all of half an hour and I nearly lost my partner already. I resolved to be extra careful in the future.
Finally, we made it to Oldale Town in one piece. Champ took a bit of a beating against another one of those fire-spitting creatures, but he was in much better shape and in much higher spirits. Still, to the Pokemon Center we went. I wanted to try and get a bit more training in before finding May.
Outside, a guy in an apron gave me a potion as a promotional item! I resolved to visit the Pokemart again in the future. Back to Route 101!
What the heck is this? Tackle it, Champ!
...Huh.
Hey! Get your slimy tentacles off of him!
This thing isn't going down easy, that's for sure, but it seems to be weakening. I think it's time to use that potion the shopkeeper gave me!
The potion pays off! The weird shell creature finally passes out, and Champ looks quite a bit stronger than he did before!
Alright, north of Oldale town is Route 103. If Birch's info is correct, May is somewhere around here. Probably some new Pokemon as well.
Like this bizarre thing. Doesn't seem to have any special abilities, but it's an even match for Champ.
There she is! She seems to be taking notes or something. She seems a bit startled once she notices me, but remembers my name. Before I can say anything else though, she challenges me to a battle.
I, of course, agree.
She sends out some weird blue thing. It seems almost amphibious, and I found myself hoping that it wasn't nearly as tough as that shell-thing from earlier.
Oh Arceus it is D:
Potion time!
That was far too close. If I hadn't bought another potion at the store, I would have lost for sure.
The battle was enough to bring Champ up to level 7. He gained a bit more defense and a tiny bit of strength, but he clearly needs a lot more.
As we each recalled our Pokemon, I worried that May might get angry that I essentially cheesed my way through my first real battle. Instead, she smiled! "That was a great battle!", she said. "I think I know why my dad has his eye out for you now. Let's get back to the lab!"
And so she ran off. I think I may have made a friend.
