Well, we'll cross the breed-or-not-to-breed bridge when we get to it

Part 6: Building the TeamMeet our newest friend: Nina! I discovered that my Pokedex had the ability to come up with name suggestions, so I figured I'd give it a shot.
After healing Champ (it was a close call because I didn't have any Antidotes), I took the time to get Nina up to speed. Her poisonous spikes really helped out in more than a few battles!
And look at her now! She's actually
stronger than Champ or Lady. I think we're ready to head down Route 102 and see what we can find there.
As I hunted for some wild Pokemon, I saw another kid leaning casually against a tree. When I tried to continue down the path, he jumped up and started towards me, saying "You're an official Pokemon trainer! That means you can't say no to my challenge!" My impression was that he was some punk trying to pick on weaker kids, but he was right: rules were rules. It's time for a battle!
The kid - Calvin was his name - sent out a mean dog-like Pokemon, and it looked pretty strong. I sent Nina out in response. The dog let out a ferocious howl and tackled Nina to the ground, but she remained calm and began clawing it in the face. The dog turned out to be as bad a bully as Calvin, for it immediately began whining and trying to escape. Nina chased it around, growling and nipping at the dog's heels, until Calvin recalled it with a sound of frustration and handed me $80. Victory is mine!
Heh. Sore loser. And now to look for a new wild Pokemon to catch...
That...is a giant enemy crab. And it shoots bubbles out of it's...mouth? Eh, beats fire.
This isn't good. I'm worried that another hit might knock it out, but I'm not sure it's weak enough to catch with only three balls. Well, I can always get more Pokeballs, right? Let's give it a shot!
Damn!
Crap!
...Did I do it? I did! Sheesh, that was close.
Aww, he just wanted to make some friends. I wish he didn't make me hit him for so much damage
To test our new friend out, I decided to see how he'd do against this kid's Pokemon.
He did very well.
Found a couple of weird berry trees. Dad told me about how useful they can be for Pokemon, so I decided to pick them and grow new ones.
And so, after a long grueling journey, I made it to Petalburg City. I had someone I wanted to meet...
