Part 17: Storming the Beach
Spoiler: Combat Log :P (click to show/hide)

Part 18: Museum Under Siege

Well, that delay was entirely unnecessary. At least we got some sugary drinks out of the deal.

So this is Slateport, eh? This place is massive!

An outdoor market area...

A dock and shipyard...

A harbor with future ferry service...

Something called a "Battle Tent"...

A museum with hordes of pirates...
Wait.
What.

Sadly, Team Aqua is being rather tight-lipped about what they're doing here AND blocking access to the museum. They must be up to no good, but I've got these "goods" to deliver to Captain Stern first.

Welp, he's not in his office at the shipyard. Maybe the harbor?

Hold the phone, Team Aqua's gone. Well, maybe I'll check out the museum while I have a chance. I'm sure Stern can wait a little longer to get his parcel. I mean, what's the worst that can happen?

...Oh.

Oh hey, it's this guy again! Hello!
...
He shoved a TM into my face, begged me for forgiveness, and ran off. How strange.

The rest of Aqua is just standing around checking out the displays. Maybe I was wrong about them and they just want to learn about the ocean! After all, this place is pretty interesting. Fossils and experiments and all sorts of neat stuff.

Cool...

Hm? Oh, YOU'RE Stern! I've got a special delivery for you all the way from Rustboro. Take it already >:[

Oh Arceusdammit. I thought you guys were just here to learn! Well, I can't go letting them steal the parcel now, can I? Bring it, goons!

Oh. Um. That looks nasty. Think you can handle it, Champ?

Oh come on. That's bull  >:(

Thankfully it's bites barely hurt Champ, so he tackled it to the ground and held it down until it quit thrashing about.

Not my problem. The other one stepped up to take over the fight.

This guy had two Pokemon. First was a Zubat. It hurt Champ a little, but he seemed okay and beat it down. I went ahead and switched him out anyway. The goon's second Pokemon was another of those vicious fish. Lady delivered a five-punch combo after confusing it, but she got hurt by that accursed skin those things have. The fish responded by leaping through the air, jaws wide for a killing blow...
directly at a wall. It didn't move after that.

Still not my problem. Can you guys just leave now?

This guy looks like he means business :o

The new guy spoke to his comrades, though he kept his eyes on me. "I came to see what was taking so long to snatch some parts, and you simps are held up by a mere child?"
He took a step towards me, away from the two goons. "We are Team Aqua, and we love the sea! And I am Team Aqua's leader, Archie! What makes you interfere with us?"

Never heard of them. Please go away?

"Wait...that can't be right. You're not in one of their ridiculous outfits."
He gave me a calculating glance.
"People, Pokemon...All life depends on the sea. So Team Aqua is dedicated to the expansion of the sea. Don't you agree? What we are doing...it's a magnificent undertaking."
I guess he saw the skeptical look on my face, and shrugged.
"Ah, fine...you're still too young to understand our noble objective. But I warn you: don't even consider interfering with our plans again. The consequences will cost you dearly!"

And with that...the three of them left.

Sadly, back in the day I played Sapphire. Which means I'm partially confused by the idea of Magma being an enemy as well.  :o

I'm pretty sure they're both bad guys in Emerald, and you have to stop both of them... or something. I didn't even realize Emerald existed until years after it came out.

Yeah, they had to go middle-of-the-road with Emerald, so Team Aqua and Team Magma just switch off with eachother at some parts. For example, I think Team Magma takes the Meteorite to the Volcano, rather than Team Aqua, even if Team Aqua want the ship parts or whatever right now. I forgot most of what happens later.

Part 19: Wanna Play a Game?

"Ah, so you're Ing, eh? Well, thank you for saving us!"

In the aftermath of Team Aqua's failed heist, Captain Stern and I managed to introduce ourselves properly. I finally managed to hand him the parts, and Stern ran off to prepare for an ocean-floor expedition. Sounds exciting, but I've got to find a defeat a new gym and there aren't any in Slateport. Guess I'll take the land routes and see what I can find.

New route! And that means new Pokemon! Let's take a look-see...

I remember these things from Roxanne's gym! I guess one of them might be useful to keep around.

First I had Champ grind it down as much as he could, though before long I had to switch him out despite a massive level advantage. After that I sent out Portia, who's aura of spores quickly poisoned the wild Pokemon. While this would help weaken it, it also put the battle on a strict time limit. It's now or never!

Oh crap! I forgot to stock up in Slateport after the whole Aqua thing! Let's try this "Premier Ball" that someone gave me...

Success!

(named her Jade)
I went ahead and removed her from the Box, along with Wattson. These two were some of my lowest-level Pokemon, and they needed training.

GAH! Where did you come from?!
...you're not being chased by another Zigzagoon, are you?

How should I know? Haven't seen her since Rustboro, I think.
...
I guess he didn't like that answer, because he grabbed my Pokenav, entered his phone number, and told me to call him at once if I saw her. Then he left as mysteriously as he came.

Route 110 had plenty of strange Pokemon to battle:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Of course, they all had their own tricks to throw at me. Wattson in particular had a very difficult time here, though I could tell that Noctis was ecstatic behind his normally dour expression.

I have no comment. Thankfully, during the battle Lute learned how to use his considerable bulk to crush his opponents.

Well, that's strange. Lots of trainers, no grass.

Step 1: Plant trees all over your house. Planting them in dirt is optional - miniature trees grow perfectly well in linoleum. Position the trees in doorways or access points.

Step 2: Leave your front door unlocked. Abduct passing intruders and toss them in your tree-filled house. Encourage them to fight each other to the death.

Step 3: If they manage to leave, throw a (probably pirated) copy of a CD at them as they leave as a 'reward'.

This is, of course, totally normal and socially-acceptable behaviour from a well-adjusted member of society.

Part 20: House of Horror

Ugh. Last thing I remember is some crazy dude popping out from under a table. After that, it's all a blur. At least I still have all of my Pokemon and it--
HE STOLE MY ITEMS! That's it. I'm getting out of here and I'm gonna teach that dirtbag a lesson.

This place is full of trainers like myself:

"He said that only one of us can escape! I have to defeat you!"

"I want my mommy!"

"He calls himself the Trick Master. Please...you must escape. You must avenge us..."

This appears to be the key to getting out of here. Now I just need to escape and call the police.

Even as we triumph, this fiend rubs it in. I will not stand for this!

YOU! Give my stuff back, and then get out of my way if you know what's good for you. I'm leaving!

He did so, which was the only smart thing to do considering the very angry kid and his Pokemon threatening him. He even threw in a bit of candy, "as a reward". But he couldn't resist getting in one last taunt:

"I'll make newer, better tricks! And then we will meet again. Oh yes we will. Only once you have defeated all of my challenges may you mock me!"

And then he vanished :o
I followed a long and winding tunnel, which led to the room I first found the guy in. This place was clearly far more massive than it appeared from outside. How many other tunnels and secret rooms were there, just out of sight?
Of course, I called the police as soon as I was out. I didn't want to stick around though, so I just left all the information I could provide and continued on my way down Route 110. I had to get stronger, so I couldn't be captured like that again.

Things were looking up, and Jade had just learned a cool new trick, when all of a sudden...

Oh, hey May! Hey, did you know that your dad was looking for you?

I didn't say I wanted a battle! Oh, forget it. Let's get them, guys!

Whoa. That's quite a level disparity.

Lute sung it to sleep, but that didn't last long at all. It responded by throwing stars at Lute, which thankfully had a hard time piercing his thick skin. A couple of bodyslams from Lute, and round one was over. My Pokemon was pretty badly beat up however, so I switched out for Jade.

Damn, May. You should have stuck with your Torkoal. It's way cooler :|
Oh well. Time to show off Jade's awesome new power!

MAGNITUDE...4? Oh come on Jade, I know you can do better than that :(
Look at that, the slug is yawning in boredom! Try again!

She got Magnitude 5 this time. I guess that's a bit better...

What the--Jade, wake up! Now is not the time for a nap!

Jade, I'd like to teach you a new word: "overkill". That's what you just did  8)

Now all May has left is her starter. Since it's a water type, I think I'll let Portia try this one.

Er...let's try Stun Spore!

So far so good...and now that Portia's faster than May's Pokemon, I can simply wait for Marshtomp to relax and have her deal damage. We might be able to win this!

Ack! Okay, it lowered her speed but didn't do a lot of damage. We're still good.

And just like that, it was over!

Well, yeah. How else am I gonna challenge my dad?

After swearing that we would meet again and that I'd better be a lot stronger next time, she hopped on her bike and rode away. In hindsight, I should have turned back at that point, to rest my party. But I was flush with victory and wanted to keep pushing forward. We battled trainers and wild Pokemon, slowly being worn down from bizarre status effects and a string of unlucky events. At one point, Portia got confused and hit herself five times in a row! My pack became progressively lighter as I used every Potion and Super Potion I had. And that's when it happened.

The poor guy had just leveled up, and we were near the end of Route 110. He was paralyzed and nearly out of PP, but he just kept fighting. And then...
