Use lightning and fire breath weapons on door in rapid succession. Ignore fireball traps due to fire imunity.

No it's okay, it's just that your post implied that you were actually aware that they were having trouble. Which, given the distance involved, would at least require a listen check. Going after them because they might need help is fine and makes sense.
