Yup, the rope gets sliced immediately as soon as it passes in front of the axe blades. It seems that anything that crosses the threshold gets cut, and it is not ground based. Definitely a magic trigger. You'll need someone who has spellcraft to come up and figure this one out

ok then, nice timing on a 20! Taking a couple minutes to study the magical currents, you deduce there is an invisible barrier across the tunnel, and that anyone who doesn't speak the correct command word before crossing gets attacked. Further study even deciphers the command word("Urglok")!

it doesn't appear to be any actual language, just a made-up word to prevent any accidental usage

Druce travels another couple hundred feet down the tunnel, around another bend, and comes face-to-face with another door. This one is similar to the one he opened to get into this tunnel, no latch or locking mechanism at all.
