Large corpses can be dealt with by having your refuse stockpile set to accept wheelbarrows.
Now I have the image of a dwarf attempting to shove an entire elephant into a wheelbarrow. For some reason, this is funnier to me then having the dwarf drag the whole elephant into the fort.

Someone who has random urges to make mog juice isn't exactly going to care about the cost effectiveness of obtaining it.

So, how many dwarves DOES it take to get an elephant into a wheelbarrow?

The world may never know.... :D

One to hold the lightbulb... one to feel its trunk and declare it's a snake...
(later)
...nine... ten... elephant!

Hey, guess what. All it took was an Animal Dissector to migrate into my fort. That's all.

If I were to bet on what was going on, I would say that most likley none of your dwarfs had butcher enabled as a job. You can set it as a job in the workshop, but if there are no dorfs to do it, it won't get done.

One to delay hauling the elephant until it almost rots, one to start the party that the first one was attending instead of hauling elephant corpses, eight to repeatedly cancel "Butcher Animal" jobs because the corpse rotted on the way there, one to drop a sock in the door tile so that miasma escapes the refuse room, one to start a tantrum spiral because of the miasma, one to get a strange mood that requires ivory and go insane because the corpse was never butchered, and one to die in magma.

So... fourteen?

I have neither, but I do have a tablet.

Also, you had the wrong job set up with no one to fill it. You had extract from an animal, not butcher dead animal. Two different professions.
