Adventure Mode Questions HFS & Missing a lot in Combat
« on: January 31, 2013, 06:35:20 am »

Hey everyone, it took me about two weeks to get past the user interface into this great game called Dwarf Fortress and now I'm happy to say I'm having tons of fun doing random things managing my fort, adding mods, and doing all the other interesting things there is to do in dwarf fortress. I do have a few questions though in adventure mode.

Are all demonic fortresses closed off to hell? I found two demonic fortresses, after smashing my head on the wall looking for them in adventure mode for 6 or so hours. One was sealed from the top, you had to dig in from a fort, and the other one was open to cavern layer 3, but stopped right at hell with slade walls, (There was no direct way in hell in the second fortress. It was just a empty fortress after I took 'excalibur' out of the magical glowing pedestal and the last floor had no way down).

Also, does anyone have issues with their adventurer missing a lot? Like failing to hit multiple times in a row. I have like 15 misses in a row and as much as I'd like to think this is just bad luck. It happens repeatedly. I get 20 or so misses in a row at random times during combat consistently while going for all the easy green options and after missing for like 100 times I get a 50 hits all in a row. I'm a bit confused. I don't think this is suppose to happen where little wild bunnies or anything for that matter randomly take 10 minutes to kill.... If there is some solution or if this is normal. I'd like to know...lol.

I don't know too much about the circus.

Yet the fact that your adventurer misses so much depends on the creature its fighting and your adventurer's skills and attributes.
For example, someone with novice fighter and novice swordsman will have a hard time hitting an expert dodger.

Also watch out for mummies. If you disturb a mummy there is a chance that it will curse you, throwing a permanent +50% failure rate on any skill checks that you make.

It would be brutally difficult and probably won't work. In other words, it's absolutely dwarven!
Cataclysm: Dark Days Ahead - A fun zombie survival rougelike that I'm dev-ing for.

So after a few more experimenting. I seem to be activating a string of misses when creatures are laying on the floor. They don't necessarily need to be the creature's I'm hitting, but simply need to be in view of my character. It's a bit odd since I'm being attacked by undead whom I am assuming do not have expert dodging...though I could be wrong...most of them are some sort of bird with some blood rancors mixed in. I attacked pretty much 10 different targets all missing in a row. At some random point after missing a LOT(about 3 minutes real time worth of missing) and running before I get swarmed. I am now able to strike down 20 of these undead without missing at all. (One hit cleave from my battleaxe to their torso).

My axe wielding is pretty much legendary at this point...seeing as my axe has over 600 undead kills. (Go Demonic Fortress with the ridiculous undead numbers and I'm not even down two levels of the fortress. God danmit).  I'm actually wondering at this point if the undead are periodically respawning...I'm not in a terrifying or evil biome, but every pixelated square of the entire fortress has an undead...I'm beginning to think this is some cruel joke in the coding or some kind of glitch...

As for the curse...I haven't thought about that so I might very well be cursed. Does it show up in the health and status screen? There a way to uncurse myself?
