Hi, thought I'd pop in to add that I've encountered a Win7 issue with the current version. Specifically, it won't run. Period. The program crashes while loading the UI, while still on a white screen. The log shows nothing amiss. Any clue what's going on?
what's the last line in the log file? are you compiling from source?

This is the last line:
Quote
2013-Feb-02 21:39:39.617 DEBUG   core   finished reading settings [src\dwarftherapist.cpp:201] (read_settings)
And I'm using the version on Mediafire for Windows.
try renaming the Dwarf Therapist.ini file in: users\your_username_here\appdata\roaming\udp software\

@13thEssence: if you name a custom role the same as one of the default roles, it will override the default and instead show your custom role in the default roles view.
That's great.  I think a few of the default roles need adjustments.  I'm assuming deleting the custom role will revert the grid views to using the default roles?
This is not a complete solution for me though.  I want to create additional roles for work-area profiles (ie brewer + thresher + miller) without losing basic roles.

if you don't want to do this, you can copy the view, or create a new view, and add any role columns you'd like.
Grid Views
add new grid view
  lets call it test
  right click in left window
  add new set
  right click right window
add some stuff (to include custom roles)
  click ok

Click in the upper left corner of DT (directly below file), looks like a gray square with a green something
  add your grid view.

Sounds easy enough.  Except for step#1.  How do you "copy / create / add new grid view"?  I see Export Current Grid View as CSV which seems to be for using the data in a spreadsheet or something, with no way to import it back. And I see Export Grid Views... which saves selected views in a .dtg file, but does not allow any customizing and importing it back results in a conflict because of existing grid views.  If you mean just clicking the button at top left with the green dot to add a new view, that adds as many copies of each view as I want, but I can't do anything with them like rename or right-click to add new set.

I also checked options but could not find how to add a new view.  Without that I can't make use of the rest of your instructions.

i've been asked a few times how to add grid views, people seem to completely overlook the little button to add a new tab, so i'll try adding some text to it so it's slightly larger and more visible.
I had no problem finding it, but I started exploring all the options within a couple of hours from installation.  It's just not labelled in any way, and I think a lot of people are reluctant to start clicking stuff that might mess up their game.  But maybe you can label it "add view" (with the ability to turn the label off in options, or re-nameable tabs allowing null label?), or have it flash when you switch tabs (could get annoying if you can't turn off).  It should at least have a tool tip, and with documentation that might be sufficient.

Thanks for the replies and the continued work on the program. :)

yes this bit isn't very intuitive. you need to add the dock window which shows all the gridviews. windows->docks->grid views. from there you'll see a button to add a new view, and a list of the currently available views for copying/editing.
