Community Play: Warhammer 40K Tabletop
« on: January 30, 2013, 04:48:33 pm »

I came up with this idea after reading Burnt's Community Play: Battlefleet Gothic which quite a few people seemed to like, and with my new risen love of all things 40k (except the Ultrasmurfs >:c ) I decided to roll with it. There is no need to know the rules of the game to participate, you simply suggest and among the suggesters come up with a plan for the community controlled armies course of action which I will carry out for you. After that the opposing army will make its move, all in all it'll play just like a regular game of Wh40K with a few home brewed rules sprinkled in to make the overall game more persistent and enjoyable for the players. If you have any questions about how things will be run or whats possible just ask :)

Onto player choices, since you guys will be controlling a singular force I'm going to outline a few choices for you and all of you can choose your favorite until we have a consensus.

Imperial Guard PDF, you are a regiment of the planet Malakar's PDF. You have a vast number of troops in your force from the lone guardsman to the heavy bolter emplacements that beat back the stronger of your foes, your marching brings thunder, and your transports & tanks leave new formed roads in their wake as they pound the ground into hard packed earth. A force made up to be more efficient at defense then offense you have a dozen or so squads of guardsmen at your disposal, and a few pieces of artillery though they may have been moved to a more needed front by now.

Chapter of the Adeptus Astartes, you are a Chapter of the Space Marines raining down upon Malakar to strike righteous vengeance against the Emperor's foes who lay siege to the world. A handful of tactial marine squads, and devastator squads to strike terror into the hearts of the tau scum, and a few of the mighty dreadnoughts to break upon the enemy waves like a cliff. Equally balanced at both offense and defense the Astartes are unyielding in their resolve to crush the Tau threat.

Other factions will be available for play now, but for now I wanna try running a fun persistent campaign as the forces of the Imperium against a besieging Tau force. Anywho let us start our collective war! :)

I wouldn't mind running a Dreadnaught for the Astartes Chapter (whichever one is picked.) Nothing like one arm being an assault cannon and the other a power fist!

The leading consensus is the Imperial Guard, and I get the feeling it'll trend with that if I continue. Any who me and the Tau commander have worked out a couple of things, and got our army lists worked out (The Tau's will of course remain hidden for the extra surprise :P) The army list is pretty bare bones, but as you go through battles and survive the units will earn XP for their kill points and surviving the battle along with rewards of points to spend on expanding your army :) Any who this is the army list right below.

For the emperor, we will hold the line or kill ourselves trying!

Community Play: Warhammer 40K Tabletop ; Mission 1 - Outpost Under Siege

Mission 1: Outpost Under Siege

A lone guardsmen stands atop of one of the two watch-towers, the iho-stick burning down to a stub he tosses it over the side, and turns to watch the horizon even though day is a little while off yet. Rubbing sleep from his eyes he suddenly spots movement on the two hills to the north, and a hulking machine steps out from behind one as he yells,

"Tau assault incoming, man the guns! MAN THE GUNS! To the trenches!"

The night air is filled the sound of metal clatter as bullets were loaded into the heavy bolter guns in their emplacements, and the sound of feet clattering on metal as guardsmen dropped into the trenches and moved into position. War was upon them ...

You can each take command of a squad (and only a squad for now because I want enough for all the players to control) and declare actions for them, but keep in mind that if your order is likely to lead to the death of your men other players can veto it. I encourage you all to work together and form plans cause the person controlling the tau would like very much to win this battle :P
