Tarzu searches for traps on the tiny golden chest, but finding none he starts to open it...

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Luckily for his quick reflexes, he avoids a smaller dart that is shot from within the chest the moment he opens it. The dart appeared to be coated in some sort of substance, but it clatters noisily on the floor...thankfully away from being hit.
As Tarzu looked around the area for more traps, he founds, straight in front of the secret panel, a second loose stone that had apparently already been triggered (by Coralie the first time). He connects it to the security mechanism of the trap panel and realizes what the 'trick' to the thing was:
The stone in front of the secret panel removed the security mechanism from the darts traps, while the one in the middle of the cellar opened said panel to the light. So one could without troubles open the panel while being in the middle, carefully avoid the stone in front of the panel and retrieve what was needed, before closing it once more by clicking again on the stone in the middle and leaving.
A bit complicated and costly, so there has to be a good enough reason for it.
And indeed there is.

Within the chest there appears to be three tiny black vials filled with a dark sort of tar-like liquid.
You count two green colored liquids near the tiny chest in pyramidal based vials, bunched together with three small pots of some sort of salve. There is also a small bottle of what looks like oil in the corner of the small secret stash.
Within the chest, apart from the vials, there are also 327 gold pieces, 33 silver pieces and 45 copper pieces, together with a small white pearl whose value is approximatively of one-hundred gold pieces.
You have no idea what the various salves or vials contain...but the black ones do look a bit ominous.

“Well,” he said. “We’re in the Forgotten hunting grounds I take it. Your screams just woke them up early. Congratulations, Lyara.”
“Do something!” she whispered, trying to keep her sight on all of them at once.
Basileus clapped his hands once. The Forgotten took a step forward, attracted by the sound.
“There, I did something. I clapped. I like clapping,” he said. -The Investigator And The Case Of The Missing Brain.

"...Either the innkeeper keeps his gold hidden here, or there's a lot more to this inn than we first thought. I'm especially not liking this tar substance in these vials, they do not strike me as a good sign."

What worries Tarzu even more is that this is a very complicated and elaborate setup for just stashing the inn's savings....

No. I suppose there are similarities, but I'm fairly certain angry birds doesn't let me charge into a battalion of knights with a car made of circular saws.

"I think it would be best if you keep the whole lot for safe keeping." Henry said to Tarzu as he glanced at Minski."We can look at it closer later. It seems like a good time to leave, we can collect our reward, pick up supplies in town, and be on the road in a quarter hour. At the very least I don't want to stay in this stench much longer, and it can't be good for the wounds we have sustained."

Henry wiped his hand off on his pants and offered it to Coralie. "Are you going to be okay? Those wounds look quite nasty, but I do not have it within me to cast more healing magic today."

Coralie nodded and took his hand, grimacing. She leaned in his shoulder for support, which was probably a bit overdramatic in this instance.

"Not...ow..fatal. Just painful! Why did that foolish woman do that? Um...Can you help me get these needles out, Sir Henri? They might be dirty...or poisoned...don't want to leave them in longer than I have to, and you seem to have some skill in surgery. And, uh thank you for your concern, Mr. Henley." She said, gesturing to the needles a impatiently.

"Are you dead yet?"

She frowned.

"No thanks to you! Haven't you read the Adventurers Handbook? Page...ow...23! 'Let your party trap specialist (alternatively called a 'Rogue' 'Thief' 'Burglar' or 'Vagabond' ) handle all mysterious switches, buttons, doors, chests"?

After helping up the Elf woman Henry did the best he could for her, pulling the darts out and making sure the wounds were not poisoned.

"That should do for now at least. Once he are out of this hole in the ground it may be a good idea for me to inspect everyones wounds, to make sure that infection does not set in."

Then made his way over to the rat babies. He shrugged, a bit sadly. And picked out the three biggest and healthiest looking ones, even in the best situation these would be the most he could take of.

As for the rest. he gripped the knife in his hand. It would be cruel to let them die of cold or hunger.

"At the same time, if this does belong to the innkeeper I'd rather not have us to be on the run from the law, branded as thieves. Rather hard to find help when you have wanted posters all over the kingdom!"

Tarzu thinks for a moment. "However, if the innkeeper is involved in some shady business, I'm sure if we can discover what it is we can "persuade" him to let us keep this stash as our reward, in turn for us not turning him in. Or we can turn him in and keep the stash, whichever works."

Unaware of what was going on in that room, Korina called out, "Can we leave yet? Please and thank you?" She continued to wait sitting on top of a barrel, swinging her feet aimlessly and waiting for the rest to come out so they could all get back upstairs where there weren't disgusting things - for the most part, that is.

Henry nods towards Tarzu. "That makes sense." He then got up and walked towards the door with his bundle of rats, wiping off the knife he handed it to the waiting Korina. "Thank you."

Coralie was about to thank Henry-he seemed like a nice man-but he was...preoccupied, with a heavy look on his face-contemplating the sad task he had to do. She decided to say so to him later, thumping back up the stairs to lean on the while aside Korina.

Noting the Sorceress questioning look...

"Yes, I got hurt-and, Ow, ow! Sai Klorina! It was horrible! I had found a secret door and Lady Minky pressed a switch and I got mean needles in my back and Mr. Henri helped me up. There's more stuff down there, but ow! I probably need a doctor myself now.

This almost hurts as bad as when I was stung by a Kantosean Drillbee!"
She said, without letting her get a word in edgewise.

Tarzu realizes he has the perfect excuse to see a healer, so he swipes a bottle of the tar-like substance(and any other potion that looks suspicious), and puts the rest of the stash back for now. He closes up the secret compartment and begins to limp back towards the entrance. "I'll get my part of the reward and go see the healer. Once I find out what's in this vial, I'll meet you all back at the inn and we'll see what's really going on here."

It occurs to me we never suspected something with the reward of 4 gold each for a simple vermin extermination, though I guess it COULD have been explained by that godsdamn huge rat we just fought....

Korina took it, unable to surpress a disgusted shudder as her imagination went wild with what it had been used for. "You're welcome." She gave the dagger another dubious look before putting it away and hopping to the ground. Then something struck her. "Are... are you carrying a bunch of baby rats?" she asked timidly, stepping away from the druid. She wanted absolutely no part of rodents, ever, at any stage of their life. She could handle giant spiders and dragons and orcs - or at least, so she believed of herself - but these plague-carrying disease-riddled nasty little vermin were beyond her.

The halfling peeked at Coralie from around the corner of a crate. "Um... hope you feel better soon. We'll all go to the healer," she said, glancing from the door to Henry's rats and back again.

Coralie seemed to turn a greener shade.

"...and, Well, Mr. Henry felt bad for the rats and wanted to save them. And I got poked by a needle trap, like I said to you just now. We should get to a healer.

Also, is still hurts! Have you ever been stung by a Kantosean Drillbee? They have stingers for hands!"
She ranted.

"If it helps, I'll use my loot to pay for her medical insurance fees!" Lady Minski hung her head in shame as she walked back through the north door and up the stairs to the dwarven innkeeper.

"I'm not sure if I trust all of you...and there could be more rats."

Oskar sticks around in the basement until everyone else leaves.

Korina tugged on Oskar's sleeve. "Come on... there's nothing else down here. Let's just go collect our rewards and get the injured to a healer." Duty done, she went back to Coralie and offered to help her up the stairs. "I had a friend who tamed one of those Drillbees. I don't know what happened to her, though. I think she settled down somewhere on an island, or something?" she said, the last a bit hesitantly. She really didn't know what had happened to her human friend. It had been quite a while.
