"Two of them were. You'll see their corpses when we get to the bottom, but I wouldn't recommend touching them. They're absolutely filthy and disease-riddled," Korina said, a look of disgust on her face.

"...I hope not. They already munched a chunk out of Tarzu. Just don't take big risks if you don't have to, all right? I don't know about you two but I'd hate for MY adventures to start with an ally dying. Speaking of... I hope Minski didn't get herself in a jam on this one."

The group of adventurers descend the stairs, just as Lady Minski retreats from the second door sword in hand.

The words "I DEEM IS RAT TWO HEADS TOO BIG!" are clearly heard by the adventurers as they see Minski nearly run into them, sword in hand.
Behind her, a swarm of rats is in pursuit, while even further behind a medium-sized rat is moving too.

Korina, there's a rat bigger than you.

Coralie had nodded to Korina. "Yes, it's the lingo of the High Speech actually-Sai can be thought of as sir or madam, but it conveys a proper greeting among polite company-I figured you were the leader of the group, so it was only appropriate. Of course, it can have other meanings based on the..." at that point they had reached the stairs and witnessed the rat swarm.

Cora's jaw dropped at the sight.

"Eyaaaguh! A two-headed giant rat? Fharlanghn guide me!" she exclaimed, hefting her round shield and blade into place quickly, and preparing to make her move once the casters had acted.

Rule 1 of adventurer training! Don't get in the way of your primary casters magic, she remembered. Rule 2 was something about grease, ropes, and 10-foot poles, but she couldn't recall that exactly...or was that something else entirely?

Action: Delay till Korina has acted, then move to the front of the group and provide shield cover.

Then, Attempt to slash the larger rat with my shortsword if it is range or moves into range.  (+5 to-hit, 1d6+1 slashing damage, 19-20 crit). Don't move away from squishy allies more than 10 ft.

Otherwise, use shield bash on the swarm (+2 to-hit, 1d4+1 bludgeon damage, -2 ac till next round.), maintaining at least 10 ft close to my allies.

Seeing what was facing him, Tarzu retreats back up the stairs a bit and ready an arrow for any opportunity to snipe the big rat, otherwise he tries to stay out of combat.

No. I suppose there are similarities, but I'm fairly certain angry birds doesn't let me charge into a battalion of knights with a car made of circular saws.

On her turn, Korina will use her usual tactic of trying to Color Spray the enemies without catching a party member in the blast. If this is impossible, she'll cast Shield on Coralie and stay back.

"What the hell did you wake up this time Minski?! That's not a rat! It's a small bear!"

Henry flung his magical fireball at the incoming swarm, with Minski right near him there was no need for it's light anymore.

"Rats are disgusting and deserve smashing!"

Lady Minski holds her ground near the rest of the group. She readies her bow and sends an arrow flying toward the Rat Swarm!

Coralie decides to wait after Korina, just like Fritz.

Lady Minski takes her bow out and flings an arrow towards the rat swarm!

This time, the color spray works, and the creature is blinded and stunned for FOUR rounds, then only stunned for ONE!
After that, it's Coralie's turn!

Tarzu will use the opportunity to hide in the shadows if he is able, and as soon as he's hidden will unleash an arrow at the first sight of the big rat. Otherwise staying out of the way again

(Rp action)

As Coralie used her heavy shield to bludgeon the teeming rats into pulpy mess, she had an occasion to wonder if this was really how she had envisioned the start to her wondrous adventurer career..

"Damn rats."

Run (as in the Run action) directly south as far as possible, or until the big rat is reached (which, if my calculations are correct, will not be this turn).
