Dungeons and Dragons 3.5 Belief of the Basic Campaign (OFF)
« on: January 29, 2013, 10:15:07 am »

After having written in another thread about the troubles of one of my players, the flea of curiosity kicked in and had me think: "Did I ever try and Dungeon Master a 3.5 dungeons and dragons campaign in here?" The answer is apparently no. so here I come.
Now, we shall start (for those interested) a brief digression.
The 'Belief of the Basic' campaign requires the basic player handbook, the basic dungeon master handbook and the basic monster manual 1 handbook for the players in question.
The amount of traps, enemy monsters and the likes are instead selected from a vast multitude of different manuals that I came across or found interesting, while the dungeon map is instead randomly generated through online feats.
(Donjon, mythweavers, others)
Our group of lovely characters (Four to Six max) find itself having to face increasing odds as they keep firm to their beliefs that 'Basic is Better'.
In another way of rendering it: It's Ironman Dungeon And Dragons against a cheating AI Dungeon Master. Which is something I think the players of Dwarf Fortress will like far more than going with a 'Fluffy' Dungeon Master who..."You unleash the trap! Oh no, it's a 1 damage from blunt toy hammer! A magical fairy appears and heals you!"
In case of Death, well it's ironman. Until the dungeon is 'left' no respawning, no new characters entering the fray.
Of course even the AIs have a heart: level one, low power (Point Buy system of 28) and you will start fraying the most perilous and dangerous cellar of your town's inn, to free it from a rat infestation.
Invisible Castle will be used for the rolls, so everyone can rest assured I will not be cheating.

There is no starting money: you take the 'starting' pack from the player's handbook with the exception that you can change the weapon with another of equal or less money worth. (Refund yourself if it's lower)

I would like a mixture of roleplay with decisive action. No tea-bagging or party killing and preferably the characters sheet to be done on Mythweaver and the links posted here. I don't expect an 'all good' group, but the purpose of the game is 'basic feeling' so it should be left to the sensibility of the players to move towards the 'good' alignment.
To recap Ironman mode:
Lethal Traps. All monster manuals against you and traps from various books. Need to eat/drink/rest (Of course) No respawn in dungeon, but 'in town'.
No need for an extensive background: usually a few lines are enough, you are at the start of your journey, so the 'background' is in truth your 'history'.
Death is eternal...unless you've got the druid with reincarnation or the guy with resurrection. (Or wish) but that's higher up, so try and survive would you?

Volunteers? Anyone?

EDIT:

Our lucky party so far:
Tarzu The Elf Rogue
Lady Minski The Human Fighter.
Henry Calbrand The Druid
Korina Understone, Halfling Sorceress.
Oskar Kelskar, Dwarf Monk
Coralie Katwyellan, elf paladin

Boom I'm in. This is going to be PBP right? I'll throw in a cleric I think.

I'll do it. Between this and my dungeon crawl I think it's looking good D&D wise for me.

I take it we're doing first level chars? Regardless, I'll throw in a rogue for this(we need trap disarming after all!)

BTW, point buy or regular rolls?

No. I suppose there are similarities, but I'm fairly certain angry birds doesn't let me charge into a battalion of knights with a car made of circular saws.

28 point buy, and yes, it's play-by-post.
I make a post, answer the player's question in the 'Off-topic' (Here) and then wait for all players to have posted an action or have said they 'wait' in OFF. 24 hour pass I go forward regardless if one has posted or not, (Unless there's a reason, in which case the player becomes the 'magical torch-holder that suffer no harm as long as the party doesn't die of a trap)

Cool. Ok, instead of a crossbow, since elves get bow proficiency, can I get a shortbow or would that be too much?

A crossbow (Light) is 35 MO, a shortbow is 30MO, feel free to make the change.

Actually, clerics are a bit more. Uh. Boring in core then I remembered. Unless tryrar was shooting for it I think I will switch to a druid since they can heal as well but they seem more interesting.

Nope, I'm making a skill-monkey rogue for trap disabling(who can also smack people at range and/or melee thanks to 18 dex and weapon finesse).

Speaking of which, here's Tarzu

No problems with Tarzu, do what you wish Criptfeind, and let us hope two more daring players join us soon. (I suppose they will once the clock ticks a bit further down the road)

This sure does look like you guys don't have a fighter. Submitting my character in a moment just in case PBP vote on the other game falls through, but I'll play this either way.

I don't have my book right here, but can anyone look up the starter pack for Fighter? I'll try to find it if not.

Thanks guys. I'm going Human, so that helps a ton.

EDIT: Here's Lady Minski. This is my first time actually completing character creation for 3.5, so let me know if I screwed anything up.

You've got a +1 being a Fighter in the Bab to place, your total attack bonus is +4 thus, same with the ranged that is +3
Except for that, the rest seems right.
