>Recall name of Guardian Angel
Her name is Suzu Suzuki, and she's your cousin's old friend, and your recent best one. She's also the only person outside of your mother and father that you can remember what they look like.
You used to have another cousin. You weren't as close, but Suzu was very close to her brother. Possibly because they both had the same disability. But they would catch eachother, and Suzu also decided she would catch you, if you ever fell. It may have been partially your fault that Suzu's brother died. But Narcolepsy is far more serious than many people realize.
>The accident
When you were four years old, you could see with perfect 20/20 vision. You were a perfectly healthy little boy, with the usual large group of friends children collect. By your fifth birthday, you were blind, and the party consisted of you, your Father, and Suzu. Her brother couldn't make it.
For some reason, people seemed to tiptoe around it. Like you didn't realize what happened, and that as long as you didn't they could pretend everything was alright. But it wasn't alright. Nothing was alright. You couldn't see anyone. And you wouldn't hear your mother ever again.
The doctors called it "Cranial trauma". You didn't know what Cranial meant, but you could guess what Trauma was. And you remembered when you lost your sight.
Mom caught it full on. You got knocked around and bumped your head. You got a bad concussion, which hit the right parts of your head to make you unable to see anything but light. And in order to save your life, the doctors had to cut the broken part out. That cost you the rest of your sight.
Your Mom didn't make it. But you did. That's why you decided to help everyone else. Decided to make sure everyone else was happy before you were. You dodged death once. If you save one person... You don't know. But you can't just let them sit there.
>Suzu
Suzu's brother and Suzu both have Narcolepsy. When you were about 15, he died. It wasn't heroic, or tragic, or poetic in any way. He fell over. He died. He probably never even knew it. That's it.
Suzu blames herself. She had a deal that if her and her brother ever fell asleep, the other would be there to wake them up. But she wasn't awake. And he died. That's it. The whole story. You think... You think that there's nothing more saddening, more emptying, than a story without a punchline. A Death without any kind of meaning. Maybe that's why Suzu is so hollow.
You lean on each other. You're the only kind of family she has at Yamuku. She's the only link to the past you have left, period. Dad doesn't really count anymore.
>SUICIDE
The door crashes open, startling both you and Suzu as you start to get comfortably sunk into the soft fabrics coating her room.
"Yo Snoozu, wake up, we- WOAH!" And the door slams shut. Suzu grunts back awake.
"wha- Miki?"
"Suzu, girl, you really oughta put a sign up or something-" Comes the muffled voice from the other side of the door. You hadn reaches down and confirms that you are, indeed, wearing pants. It's possible Miki just has a dirty mind. In fact, you're quite sure she does.
"Miki..." groans Suzu.
"- Because if you're going to bring a boy into your room-"
"Miki."
"-And I'm shocked you didn't
tell me about him since I'm your Be-Eff-Eff-Forever-"
"Miki! He's just a friend!"
You hear the door open a crack. You imagine Miki peeking into the room like a cartoon. "Snoozu..."
"
Miki." Suzu snaps. Miki sighs.
"Your choice I guess. But thems gonna be some broken kids." You can feel the rage washing off Suzu like a waterfall of fire. Or magma. Or burning Magma.
"What do you want Miki?" Suzu asks.
"You will never guess who just
died." She says it like it's not completely horrifying. Suzu's hand slaps against her mouth as she gasps. Even you allow some of your surprise to show on your face.
