Dwarf is on fire.... Maybe?
« on: January 28, 2013, 05:37:29 pm »

I lost several dwarves to some ogres on a volcano embark, and built them a tomb near the volcano, with the intention of flooding it, forever entombing them in lava.  I don't have any experience with magma, so I ordered a useless peasant to breach the pipe, figuring he would either be able to get away from the slow moving magma, or he would be incinerated and I would have an opportunity for more tomb building experience.  Well, he got away, but he's flashing orange and yellow, leading me to believe he is on fire.  However, he is not "!!UristMcUselessPeasant!!", he is simply flashing.  He has no wounds or health problems, he is just going around bussiness as usual.  He chatted with his wife, had a little snack (On stone tables).

Is this a bug?  Do I have to worry about him setting stuff on fire?  Why is he flashing if it is not a bug.

I saw this happen when, on a volcano embark, I flooded the meeting room with magma.  Several dwarves died, but others just loitered around, wading through 2/7 magma, flashing as though on fire, perfectly content yet seemingly immune to all heat.  Temperature was not off, as plenty of other dwarves burned to death from fire imp attacks or died from magma exposure.

It appears that some dwarves can just be perpetually on fire and not die from it or magma, at least around volcanos (I have never seen the Great Magma Sea spare an unlucky miner)

Ok... Just reloaded the save and he spontaneously combusted.  So... Problem solved.  I guess re-initializing it made the game realize what happened :P.  EDIT-  And of course it was right in front of his wife (Who I didn't know existed).

hm.  I abandoned with dwarves still on unrecorded fire.  I wonder if I might get burning migrants to future forts, that combust as soon as they enter the map, should I play that world again?

It may have melted all the fat off of them.

Funny that this should be mentioned, exactly this happened to me last night. I was digging some magma channels from the Sea to my forge area and Urist McNoSenseOfDirection ran into a corner instead of up the stairs. But not even when he was submerged in 7/7 did he suffer even the smallest wound. He could not move though, so he eventually died of thirst down there. Didn't get a screenshot -.-
