Ran into a rather odd gameplay issue a while back. Maybe it's a bug? I'm not sure.

I've got a mass pitting setup so my marksdorf squad gets plenty of practice on live targets, and it works very well. Animal stockpile around a bunch of hatches above a sealed room (with bridge gate for cleaning access) that has a wall made out of carved fortifications. Thing is, when I went to throw some old leftover zombies into this pit, they didn't show up on the list of creatures available to be assigned to the pit. At all. I had to (B)uild ca(j)es, and then hit X to expand the list to specific cages because they didn't show up as "dwarf cage" etc. otherwise. Any idea what caused this?

These captured zombies might have been left over from my first attempt at this site, my current fortress is a reclaim. Could that have been the problem?

I'd say it's not the reclaim's fault. I have been doing almost exactly what you're doing, and can't pit my zombies either... but it only happens with sentient creatures. If I capture a zombie Muskox, no problem, but zombie dwarves or humans won't show up to be pitted. Mine were from an early undead siege and I've never reclaimed. They've been chilling in my stockpile for years now.

On the oddities note: I have two Dwarf Corpses in cages in an indoor animal stockpile... but they produce no miasma. Why is that? The wiki said they would.

If I remember correctly - caged creatures are treated as being in timeless limbo - so probably that's why they won't rot and produce miasma.

The thing that's weird is that I was able to pit all the other zombies except these... oh, I think it was seven undead. Of the more than one hundred caged undead, these few randomly didn't show up as options to be assigned to the pit, even though they were sitting in the stockpile literally right next to the pitting hatches.

It's just the darndest thing.
