So now that I have messed around in DF for about 4 months or so (and acomplished nothing at all) I want to try adventure mode.... and im horrible.
whats getting me now realy is that i dont know how to re-fill my water pouch. and is there any way i can make boars stop running away so i can spear the devils?
The wiki is realy helpful for most things, but doesn't quite cover the small stuff like what the keys are and how to do certain things.
Maybe I can use this thread to scream for help? I hope so!

I'm going to address them one by one:
Water pouch: Since it is already being worn by you all you need to do is be adjacent (or on top of) a source of water (a river, a bucket with water, or an ocean (salt flavoured!)) and hit "I" (for interact Inventory) and select the water pouch, and interact with the water source of your choice.
Since you did not choose elf as your race, this will happen- the solution is to have a high Ambusher skill (or a ranged weapon, but then you're not spearing 'em are ya?). It will take a couple thousand (or tens of thousands?) of steps to get it to a nice level, but hey, you can do it in a town (nice and safe!)!
You can use "?" in game to find out what key does what.

Aaaand your my new god. since I have been reading other stuff on the forums forever it bugs me that the first time I speak up its to ask for help, but sometime it must be done. If'n I get stumped again I'll be back, but im going to try and save it for something more interesting than dehidration lol.

You can eat animal blood and it makes you not thirsty (not sure if elves can though).

To catch up to animals you can raise your agility and strength, which increases your overall speed. Once it's over 1000 or so you can walk up to most animals. Crabs and badgers are easier to catch up to if your speed isn't 1000.

Besides ambushing, you can use trees and stuff to block line of sight. Animals won't run from you as much if they don't know where you are.

If you just need food when you're starting out, you can throw your knife at a herd of animals. It works best if you do it from uphill, so your knife tends to land where you threw it instead of 50 meters away from where you threw it.

You can press "S" or "s" (I don't know) to sneak, though if the boars already saw you you cannot sneak, if they didn't you can sneak and hide behind trees or throw a rock at them to paralyze them and go spear the boars.

On a somewhat unrelated topic, where the hell are the raws for waterskins?  I've looked all over for them.
