Kirby's Epic Yarn is the most fun Kirby game they've released since 2000. Everyone I know who's touched it has had a blast the entire time, especially in co-op. Difficulty is not everything.
Exactly! Me and my best buddy had a fantastic time going through the game. Sure, it's easy, but it's still fun as hell and difficult even with infinite lives and immortality.
Wait. Shin Megami Tensei Fire Emblem? I detect large amounts of !!Fun!!. Awesomesauce.
Also, they better make a good Metroid game to make up for the shit that was Other M.

I'm sorely disappointed at the lack of Metroid as well. Not only because of how utterly horrible Other M is, and that Nintendo needs to make up for butchering the protagonist of one of my most favorite video game series ever, but because we haven't gotten a proper installment in the series in something like 7 years.

It's 9 years, if you don't count Prime games.

I just want more Prime. Those are still some of my favorite games of all time.

I absolutely adored the prime games, but they're massively different from the 2d installments.

Did they really choose to make Other M canon and not Prime?  They should just go ahead and reverse that.  I get that they wanted Other M to sell, but really.

They should do what the movies do to the comic stories. Retell the beginning, tweak it, and make it fun.

Yeah, they did exactly that with Metroid: Zero Mission.  Metroid 1 for the GBA plus an actual map, cutscenes, and basically all the cool gameplay from Metroid Fusion.  I love it!  I'd love a similar remake for Metroid 2, the black-and-white GB one on SR388.

Samus was already a legendary bounty hunter at the start of Metroid 1, so a new game could explore her earlier exploits.  Alternatively we could follow up on the X parasites.  They're said to have lived deep within the planet, supported by the fact Samus saw none in Metroid 2.  All she did was crash a (surprisingly explosive) space station onto the surface.  Couldn't the explosion merely blow a path to the remaining X?

Keep in mind that the Chozo created the Metroids specifically to eat X, after the X destroyed SR388's (presumably Chozo) civilization.  Samus is now the last Chozo warrior AND the last Metroid (well probably).  Revisiting SR388 could work as well as revisiting Zebes did in Super Metroid.

This one didn't want to be who they was. On the Surface – it was a dull, unconsidered sadness. But everything changed. Which implied everything could change.

Thanks to everyone who answered my question. I feel sufficiently refueled in knowledge, which translates to !!POWER!!

Hm. . . wish I had actually played the older metroids-my only metroid experience is Prime 1+2 and Other M.

Edit:I feel so stupid, and forgot about Metroid Fusion. It's a lot closer to the old games, right? I already beat that game twice-shame I never correctly sequence broke, but I still got the secret message. I also "Played" the original metroid on my NES as a kid before said NES was stolen.

I've just never been that attached to the metroid series, so I totally forgot how much I used to play it. Excuse my forgetfulness.

Anyways, back on topic. I'm liking this. . . "Xenoblade-like game," but am I the only one who thought of Magnus when I first saw the guy in black leather?  And giant robots. Those are always healthy. Sorta.

What I'm really interested in, however, is this Yarn Yoshi game. Just from looking at the footage, there seems to be more than meets the eye when it comes to how the game will be played-there are some three dimensional areas with crystal collectibles seemingly behind the playing field.

(Great, now whenever I see a guy in black leather with a big sword I'm gonna thing Magnus.)

It doesn't matter what is canon and what is more arguable as long as people have a timeline to argue about, look at Zelda.

Markus, if you want some experience with Super Metroid or Zero Mission style games, theres plenty on youtube. Heres one of super metroid, for example.

It's known as the Oppai-Kaiju effect. The islands of Japan generate a sort anti-gravity field, which allows breasts to behave as if in microgravity. It's also what allows Godzilla and friends to become 50 stories tall, and lets ninjas run up the side of a skyscraper.

SMT+Fire emblem has me so excited you have noooooo idea oh my god. Also Yoshi's Epic Yarn or whatever it is is looking pretty amazing too. Kirby's epic yarn wasn't hard but really what kirby game is? They're still great games.

Also description of SMT for the uneducated, basically most of them revolve around demons invading the world in some manner and humans fighting back against them. Seems fairly generic until you realize that one, there is a morality system (law, neutral, chaos) that is typically fairly well executed, and two demons are treated similarly to pokemon in that you "negotiate" with them, (you litterally have a conversation with them, it's actually pretty neat) and get them to join you. You can fuse them to make new demons, and unlike pokemon you are expected to change your demons fairly regularly as they level fairly slowly.

The games are also punishingly difficult, well known for throwing around instant kills nigh constantly later in the games, and also well known for being maybe one of the only JRPGs where buffs are actually worth the MP used to cast them, and in fact are quite consistantly very useful on bossfights and tough enemies. Persona is a part of the SMT series, but it's a spinoff, and in my opinion recently has ventured far enough from SMT to stand on it's own legs. No one's really sure if Pesona'll show up in the FE+SMT game. I love persona, but I really don't think it'd mesh very well with Fire Emblem.

tl;dr: SMT is a pokemon-esque game with crushing difficulty and actually good instakill/debuff/buff spells.

Now to inspire a touch of fear in any Fire Emblem vets, instakill spells+fire emblem permadeath. (once more nobody's sure if permadeath spells will make the transition to fire emblem unscathed but man if they do)

I think they made both canon.

That reminds me that I still have to finish the third prime game. Circumstances meant I could rarely use my Wii and then I got a decent PC.

Yep. Metroid's timeline is actually really solid for a Nintendo game.
