How to play as different races in adventure mode
« on: January 23, 2013, 05:10:53 pm »

I've always wanted to try out different races in adventure mode and I had found out how to do so a long time ago and I've now forgotten, does anyone know how I can play as (for example) a Minotaur in adventure mode?

Create an entity_minotaur file in the raws that targets the creature_minotaur file. Sadly, I have no idea how to customize an entity. I just know that it has to have a [ADVENTURER TIER] token to be able to play as them.

Go to your DF folder:
raw/objects/entity_default
And scroll down to the bottom and make a line of ******** and write something like "edited from here" (That's the way I did it to remain orientation in the files).
then write

[ENTITY:x] (For the "x" just anything, doesn't really matter what.)
[INDIV_CONTROLLABLE]
[CREATURE:MINOTAUR]
[ADVENTURE_TIER:6]

Please note: If you use this way, you will only be able to play a minotaur outsider i.e. your adventurer will only be able to get skill points on knifeuser and spearuser during character creation.
And: It may be that the MINOTAUR has tokens that make him hostile against normal citizens which would prevent you from taking quests.

I imagine the [SEMIMEGABEAST] token could give some problems, not sure.

Does this work for any creature? Do I just change the creature name from [CREATURE:MINOTAUR] to [CREATURE:DRAGON] or something like that?

Yes. At least that's how I try out different creatures in Adv. Mode.

Creating a new creature and race from scratch using new materials and new body schematics is very troublesome, if you just started out. This I learned when I tried few months ago. Its very easy to suddenly end up having a creature made out of wool or some unnamed material which comes off very easily.
