Blargh! Pre-Easter preparations happen to be eating up my time, so I probably won't finish till late Monday or early Tuesday. Sorry about the wait.

Overseer's diary, 23rd of Timber,

Today has been a dark day in Cheesefurnace. Once the bloody goblin ambush leaves the map, many dwarves will go on enforced holiday. On the 16th of timber, the war dogs detected a single ambush group of crossbow goblins. We quickly prepared, and I considered myself lucky to have expanded the alert warren to include the magma furnaces. The goblins were broken quickly, however I foolishly gave the order to destroy the unconscious runner. Needless to say, the poor recruit, husband of the marksdwarf ushirir ran ahead of the rest of us...Right into three squads of hidden crossbow dwarves! He instantly burst into a martial trance, destroying a Goblin pikeman's hands and ensuring the other's were paying far too much attention in pincushioning him than where they were going, or who else was shooting at them. He has has fallen as a Hammerdwarf striking many blows and terrifying that skulking law-giver who ran without making a single attack.  After every thing else that has happened, I think a break is well deserved. Otherwise, there wasn't so much as a single injury. Poor Silver missed the show, he was asleep through it all.

Overseer's diary, 3rd Moonstone,

Spirits are higher than I hoped. I need to replace a few dead wardogs, and Momuz's son is unhappy, but everyone else is stable, or like his wife, happy. Time to socialize, and after everything of value is hauled into the fort, seal off for the rest of winter.

EDIT: Keas restricted to tropical forests where they belong.  Those evil, EVIL, foul little things.

Edit: The baby murderer became a friend of the fortress, which started a loyalty cascade, and now most of the squad is dead.

Done! save file at the bottom.

Overseer's diary, 6th Opal,

Target practice was a fiasco... There needs to be a door blocking the view from the top of the live range, otherwise anyone passing by runs in terror. after the the marksdwarves and myself finished off our quivers Silver decided some practice would be a good idea as well. This put down the goblins, however the mess leftover is probably going to need further cleanup.

Overseer's diary, 28th Opal,

Peregar! you have a son! Kadol Rigothmatul has been born this day to Ingush and Peregar. with any luck the loss of usushir's husband will have little mark in the revival of Dwarfkind. This slow steady growth is exactly what's needed. There is some miasma to worry about, however the cleanup goes slow and steady.

Overseer's diary, 29th obsidian,

It's still a mess, volf has been angry and there's too much inconsequential stuff keeping everyone busy. I'm burnt out, time for someone new. The fortress as it stands. I have the uniforms set to replace clothing as Silver has been running around with sandals...

I could take another spot if absolutely needed.

I must make a note to buy some cats from traders at the next opportunity and see if I can chain up a breeding pair someplace clean. Having kittens wandering the hallways will be a good way of identifying patches of paralytic poison that still need to be taken care of.

Reanimation time!

Well, I must finish this fort, even if this will be boring. It would be wrong to leave this fortress unfinished.

1st Granite, 175, Early Spring
When I went to top of fortress from mines I noticed some weird disorganization. I asked Necrisha what is happening, she said that her time for being boss ended and nobody wants to fill that place.
This isn't suprising after all: Our fort isn't a pretty place – dirt, blood, mess, corpses, some giant monsters in caverns...
So I decided to take place as overseer just to make sure something bad won't happen.

By staircase, one level higher than our forges, I noticed a pile of used cloth, adamantine strands, some seeds and A DAMN DEAD GOAT. What the hell happened here? I hope I will get some information.

I let dwarves do their work. We have a lot of work.

7th Slate
I got the report that says "The fortress attracted no migrants this season."
Geez, I wonder why...

4th Felsite
One of our pandas went wild and injured another panda, I think I should send military.
Panda fell into pond while fighting with dogs and got a various injures. The only thing Silver had to do was to pierce it's skull.

18th Felsite
Elven caravan arrived as well a goblin snatcher, who has been deterred.
About elves... I ordered to bring some lead goblets...

"AMBUSH!!!!"
"Fucking hell! TO FORTRESS! GO TO FORTRESS MY DWARVES! TO FORTRESS!"
It's just looks like little ambush of 4 pikegoblins and one bowgoblin, but more of them may be hiding somewhere.

27th Felsite
Well, at this moment goblins from ambush are dead, captured or ran away, at least they solved the elf problem.

28h Felsite
Yep, another ambush. And they got our woodworker, carp.
17 of them
– speargoblins
– two bowgoblins + 1 elite crossbowgoblin
– hammergoblins
– axegoblins
We can't go outside to save Mebzuth, because we would be wiped out... Poor girl.

Goblins sits by the trap corridor, so that means woodworker escaped, as Necrisha, her only friend believes, or... died.
Goblins ran away as they seen that their mates are injured by traps.
Two injured left in entry. I decided to go out with other dwarves to kill them.
A elite crossbowgoblin, who have injured legs, is quite far from us, so we won't go to kill him... Ya know, other ambushes may be hidden here.
We didn't get them, they escaped too.
Also, I mentioned that marksdwarves don't have bolts?
I ordered to make some iron ones.

18th Hematite
They found Mebzuth, dead. Necrisha doesn't care, she is still happy.

I got another report that our fortress attracted no migrants... Do they know that we are the only dwarves in the world?!
And one more thing: Why nobody take care about training animals!?
One mountain goat went wild, but how dangerous it can be, huh?

6th Malachite
That goat attacked bp920091 in narrow corridor leading to waterhouse, activate army!

8th Malachite
bp920091... is dead.
Goat kicked his head... Got a name: Osalrul
I ordered to butcher all semi-wild animals.

13th Malachite
The Goat is dead.
bp920091 will be carried to his tomb

27th Malachite
Another goat went wild, military on!

28th Malachite
Goat is dead, thanks gods nothing bad happened this time.

11th Galena
We heard powerful squawk, fast check show that's Yonali Lasecaamafe. A huge wren with external ribs, pair of fan-like antennae and bloated body. It have gray, long and narrow feathers. It have poisonous bite.
Nobody cares.

16th Galena
A human caravan arrived.

1st Limestone
It's half of year, so far:
2 dwarves died.
No dwarves migrated here(huh).
Few animals died.
No serious progress.
Elves got wrecked, that's a good thing.
Some goblins died or are caged.
One giant bird appeared in caverns.
People's moods are good.

At this rate we will be killed in few years...

"Umm... Mr. Volf, are you sure these goblets are harmless? I heard that lead is poisonous..."
"Lead? Poisonous? No way! Trust me; lead isn't poisonous, we dwarves know better about metals"
"Right... so lead is fine?"
"Absolutely fine, do you see, how good these looks?
"Yea! Looks like a work of good smith!"
"So what? Deal?"
"Deal!"
*Handshake*

So we got a quite good deal: They gave us food (Cheese! YAY!) and booze for these goblets, heh, silly humans.

22th Sandstone
Some giant three-eyed spider appeared in caverns.
I started to look for more adamantine, addy armor and weapon? Good thing.
I don't know, what dwarves are doing, they haul stuff non-stop!

Early Timber
We got several chunks of adamantine, so I ordered to transport it.

12th Timber
Ingish, who transported adamantine run away, because, as he said, was scared by forgotten beast.
Well, that means, is here way to get into staircase...
And we got a damn giant wren in caverns...

Moonstone - Opal
I started making some adamantine wafers.

16th Obsidian
"Peregar! Run! Run, you idiot!"
"No! I have crossbow! I will take them out!"
"Too many of them!"
"Shut up! I will be fine!"
...
Peregar was killed on the field by speargoblins while hauling wood.
Goblins fell to traps as usual, after all, in entry were two injured goblins: speargoblin and bowgoblin.
Silver killed bowgoblin but refused to move and kill speargoblin.

People complained that, they can't leave burrow to move animals to their pastures. So that's it, my dwarves are in big part busy moving these damn animals...
I must do something with it.

1st Granite, 176
Well, that year wasn't the best, maybe next year will be better? Who knows...

The results of the entire year:
– 3 dwarves died:
Mebzuth - killed by goblins, tried to escape,
bp920091 - murdered by goat which went wild,
Peregar - killed by goblins, tried to fight them,
– Few tamed animals died.
– More puppies and some wolf pups.
– No new dwarves.
– Started producing wafers.
– Some casualties on goblin side.
– Elven caravan wrecked by goblins.
– Sold some lead goblets to humans for food and booze.
– Two new forgotten beasts in caverns.
– Dwarves are still happy.
