No worries :) As long as I'm somewhere in the first 10 or 15 years I'm good.

For some reason I got it in my head you wanted the cheesemaker, Necrisha. Eh, too late. I did recruit you and one of the miners to the military, I noticed we had pretty much no military. I also set up a barracks in the trapped entrance area (What were you building in the spot the miners were digging?), so I set the miners to build on the opposite side of the hall btw. I was confused a lil about where everything was (and I stilll can't find that damn masons workshop) so I think itll be all good.

Apparently coding DF is equivalent to slaying hydras.

I didn't have a military because we have do few dwarves left alive (no migrant swarms to draft)

That area was gonna be a animal holding area (instead of the big stockpile)

Masons workshops should be on the left side of the second floor of the main fort

I must make a note to buy some cats from traders at the next opportunity and see if I can chain up a breeding pair someplace clean. Having kittens wandering the hallways will be a good way of identifying patches of paralytic poison that still need to be taken care of.

Got it, compiling entry pics (I wish I brought my mouse). Sorry for the wait- was being pampered by a cunning boyfriend, who I will eventually teach DF to.

Necrisha's overseer Dairy;
Entry one
I was idling in my bedrroom when bp920091 bolted in and threw the overseer's tablet on top of me. I decided to spend a bit of time to familiarize myself with all parts of the fortress and not just the barracks and workshops.

Well here's the first bit:

And the underground farms.

I was fine until I descended into the first cavern and realized there was a great section of the main staircase exposed to ANY flying creatures! I decided that out of anything, I must remedy this! Tour over, I knew what to do, and what I was getting into.

EDIT: Ok I'm back and my editing program is being a tard so there will be no messing around with the in-between images... Oh, and day one Baseline fps-26 :)

Overseer's diary 1st Hematite;

Everything seems to be going well so far. I haven't hit any new veins of iron through exploratory mining yet, however the first and second caverns are a 100% walled off. Once the third cavern has completely been sealed off I may develop plans for an bridged entrance to the second cavern for silk collection purposes, as it would be easy enough for a farming development in there. Some more Galena veins have been found and there is olivine stone now available for any colour coding ambitions. I've collected some of the forbidden cages and started a taming project to handle the caught animals. I also filtered out the new animal stockpile to provide a closed door holding area next to the "live target" archery range specifically for goblins.

I've placed a cage inside the depot area to dump the nuisance puppies (all of them) in till they've grown enough for proper handling. I've culled a couple stray breeders to prevent a population explosion and trained a few more war dogs to wander around. I haven't yet seen what the elves have in stock, but I assume I will be able to buy what I need with the goods available. The Ashery and Dyer's shop has been built, however I'm still waiting on the soap maker's workshop to finish.  There has been a slight increase in the number of brewed drinks stockpile. There hasn't been much difference to the fortress look so far. Well aside from a mess that will be closed off once the ore has been removed.

Oh and Kulet Stinthadlikot had Become a child on the 15th of Felsite. No new births have occurred though I will ensure there is a major holiday after the Human caravan has left, provided there is no Gobbo/Kobbo interruptions.

Note: There hasn't been much of a slow down yet. FPS went about as high as 38 when most of the dorfs were on break/eating/drinking/sleeping which was almost nice. More will be posted tomorrow.

Overseer's diary, 26th Galena,

Well, the walls surrounding the third staircase are now finished. The cage traps have provided both a breeding pair of mountain goats to train, as well as a second kingsnake. The elves didn't bring anything terribly interesting as far as animals go, I did pick up a wolf and an emu for the hell of it, both female, so if nestboxes are produced there would be no shortage of eggs. It seems my skills will come in handy after all. I also provided a stockpile specific to clothes as it seems there are a few unhappy thoughts about deteriorating clothes to address. The human caravan has just arrived on the map so hopefully I can buy enough cloth to replace the XtrousersX and maintain suitable stores for the future..

There has finally been a birth today. ushirir Igatholtar has had a baby boy. This brings the total of four too young to work; a 6yr old, a 2yr old, a 1yr old, and a newborn. The prepared meals are at a steady 1200, drinks are over 900 and rising, and there is a debate going on where to put the lighted statue garden to prevent cave adaption, as certain individuals are already becoming nauseated by the sun. the trick is of course trying to determine if the location should be built out of the clifside, or a channelled down to a suitable level, as to maintain a compact fortress.

Of the three kobolds that were detected at the entryway, two got away with nothing to gain, and Silver has added another notch to his belt once I myself managed to slow the little bugger down with a couple of bolts. He stabbed through the skull and twisted, cleanly severing the spinal column and essentially lobotomizing the creature in the first strike. I am impressed.

Just the caged ones so far- I'm not going to do much today, pretty tuckered out after building a RL snow fortresses... Man is spring snow heavy.

MAJOR EDIT!!!:

Overseer's journal 24th limestone;
I'm afraid I might disappoint a few people as I stood, completely tongue-tied during the Guild representative's meeting. (last session I had decided to save before I was asked what I wanted, and unfortunately hit ESC just as the screen came up.) Here is the Human's request, regardless of my mistake; for my hopefully soon to be replacement. to be frank I'd rather shoot kobolds than keep this up full time.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I know I should have at least requested cloth, however that came to naught. I made sure to buy all the reasonably priced thread, and sent someone out to collect a few webs as things seem calm enough right now above ground.

Trading went well regardless and I am producing more lead goblets to replace the ones I have sold off. I also had another job order for smelting hematite go through. One of the smelters has been converted into a glassworks for the sole purpose of producing raw green glass-I think it would do well to train up one of the kids as a jeweller once he is old enough. or if someone chooses to have a career change.

The merchants have left in an uneventful day; well, above ground. In the first cavern we have an new uninvited guest show up. I don't have much of a visual, but it described itself quite well. I am glad I finished up the stairwell's wall. I will have to scrutinize my plans for the second cavern closely.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Overseer's Diary the date of the entry is illegible.

THERE ARE ADAMANTINE THREADS IN THE HOSPITAL!!! WHO LET THE CMO GET INTO THE ADAMANTINE!
 The rest of the entry is chicken scratch, though it goes on for a full paragraph. You can decipher mention of removing coffers that you can make out. Also some bit about stockpiles.

Overseer's journal 3rd Sandstone;

I apologize for the entry above; it was both unprofessional and unacceptable. I'll admit, I was horrified when I realized the hospital coffers contained the adamantine threads, though I guess it is not as bad as finding adamantine thread in the stockpiles meant for weaving. I have rectified the situation, though in the future unforbidding the threads are required to work with them. I have downgraded the thread and cloth stocks required in the hospital, though I doubt it will do anything for the chronic overstocking problem reported.

Everything else have been going exceptionally well, aside from producing soap. At least one of the assigned individual finally started making lye... We now have more drinks than prepared meals, and with both over 1000 I'd say we are in good shape for the future. I have installed a quern in the kitchen as well as moved the puppy cage there. Many of the pets running underfoot have been pastured outside for the moment. I purchased a ram to help provide thread in the future. Before I leave office I shall have to re-organize a few jobs.

That's what I'm thinking... maybe statues to replace all the coffers? currently watching dorfs run around returning cloth to cloth stockpiles actually.

Just make stockpiles and delete chests from hospital, it's buggy.
