Ok, I feel a little bit bad now...
« on: January 21, 2013, 11:18:59 pm »

So I made short work of a rampaging giantess, and like all the semi/mega/FB's that I kill I memorialized her, and this is what I saw:

This is an exceptional gabbro memorial to Daze Norbok.
The slab reads: In Memory of Daze Norbok / bled to death, slain by the dwarf "Huntress" Swallowgilds The Anger of Culmination with a bismuth bronze bolt from a steel crossbow in the rampage of the giantess Daze Judgevigor in Archwhisper in the year 507 / Slayer of the elf Amala Slidgrowths / Loving mother.

Awwwwww, I killed a loving mother! A homicidal, rampaging one but a mother nonetheless. Will her child come after us seeking revenge?

By the way, The Anger of Culmination is a great title. Usually they are a bit silly, but this one's nice and menacing. Good thing, because she's my militia captain.

Well, with another giant I assume. Giants are bigger than all other semimegabeasts, so cross-breeding wouldn't really... work... Ouch. There goes my sanity. Again.

It could be a bronze collosus! OOH! Or if you subscribe to DnD rules, a dragon!

So many delightfully disturbing possibilities! (Probably just another giant though.)

Wait, you get these with engraved slabs?

You can make memorials to anything that dies in the fort, including Megabeasts.

I think that's still restricted to 'historical' figures. I'm certainly not receiving the option to engrave slabs for my livestock unless they received a name (through kicking the brains out of a goblin or somesuch).

But you can make memorials to the gobbos and merchants you kill and put them up along your road, so anyone invading (or trying to sell you tie-dye clothes) knows what they're getting into.

there's the occasional bug where you can dedicate a slab to a wagon.

The various notables you've killed (FBs, MBs, SMBs, civ leaders, etc.) are usually directly below your own dwarves that have died in the engraving choice list.

Sorry folks, was at work. Here is the Legends entry. I really wish Toady would fix the XML dump so the Legend Viewer is complete, but, y'know, fat trees.

it doesn't say who the father is. I think there may have been more than one because she liked to hang out at a place called the Adventurous Climax, and she had three children, of which one earned his own title.

Daze Judgevigor was a female giant born in -288 and died in 507 (Bled) by the dwarf `huntress' Swallowgilds the Anger of Culmination, in The rampage of UNKNOWN BEAST in Archwhisper.
Caste: Female
Type: Standard

UPDATE: Funny, if you look at the child's history it says who the father is! Funny it doesn't say that on the mom's info, though. Daddy dearest was:

Beso Championcontrol the Saffron Influences was a male giant born in -179 and died in 112 (Struck) by the dwarf Etur Slingwaved.

I suppose the same way you can be born in 288 BC.

Many of the Megabbeasts and forgotten beasts come from before year 1. Only the "mortal" races, for lack of a better word, seem to start there.

I like to make memorial slabs to slain megabeasts and put them up outside my fort entrance as a warning to any potential comers that we are not to be messed with.
there's the occasional bug where you can dedicate a slab to a wagon.
In Legends mode, I cam across an certain "Unnamed Wagon" who was the ardent worshiper of a human god. Or perhaps a wagon god...
