Whats the deal about MU? All i saw was some shitty upload site with speed cap and timers on the people who didnt pay for it.
Mediafire is much better IMO :/
It got taken down due to SOPA shenanigans, if I remember correctly.

I know. Its just, it isnt that great of a site :/

MU sucked, sure, but I'll still root for it over the FBI.

Yup.

Not all of us are eldritch abominations, Xantalos.

Most of us eat kittens.

I honestly liked Megaupload more for Megavideos, which loaded the entire video immediately (none of that bullshit "let's load 10% ahead of where the player is at and make it impossible to watch a second time without redownloading!"), loaded it quickly, played it at a reasonable quality, and wasn't a gigantic bandwidth hog.

Not half as common, and IIRC they weren't quite as reliable.

According to Kim Dotcom's twitter, the site was quickly overloaded with traffic. It may be down due to the servers crashing.

More like people plain broke the server with excitement than crashing it, really.

Why the devil was this in Announcements for a second there?

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

People can move things into Announcements. Its a bit of a bug in SMF.

And most importantly, it's was commonly used. Which meant its disappearance made a sizeable portion of the downloadable or watchable content on the interwebs disappear, be they Touhou links or old tv shows.

Or put more succinctly:
Quote
The raid on Megaupload put 25 petabytes of data uploaded to it by its 50 million members into a legal limbo.
