Also in the future pcs might be able to run worlds of gigantic sizes at fair speeds.
Sadly, this will not happen unless multi-threading support is added.
Thankfully, multithreading is on Toady's list of things he intends to do once he's mostly done with new features.

By Travel speed the largest world is about the size of europe.
Europe must be a lot smaller in your world. The biggest DF worlds are 600-odd miles to a side, IIRC...

Travel Speed Distance is calculated by seeing much time it takes to transition one world tile.

Then multiplying that by all the tiles. Then making sure to apply it to walking speed assuming 8 or 12 hour travel.

Basically think of it like Light Years. Except these are Walking Days.

The maximum size of the DF world by travel speed is Europe.

How many walking days wide is DF?

Honestly I wouldn't mind it if things were much further appart and cities were fully populated by their current population and farms were legitimately massive.

Out of curiosity, where did you hear that? If it's true, that would be ¤GREAT¤!
I hope he also includes the support for higher RAM while at it. I know there are hacks to compensate this, but hacks are always hacks, there is no way we can be sure those works 100% in every situation.
