Dwarven omninet
« on: January 19, 2013, 12:37:54 am »

I have recently designed a new method of catching large amounts of sea creatures. From my latest test fort i present The Dwarven Omninet
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
the funels herd the animals in then when they see the waranimals through the windows they panic and run. this serves 2 purposes
1.the war animals force the sea creatures to run towards the cage trap corridor
2.the war animals stop the sea creatures escaping the funnel

the actual net is a room with floodgates at either end filled with cage traps that can be drained at any time, also i can force curents through the room to sweep away animals that haven't been trapped into traps and drain it to airdrown them.
the bottom left of the map is the holding pens and not part of the trap.
this design is quick and easy to build and does not require pumps which is a bonus
it is also highly efficient i did not notic any sea creatures escaping the map while it was in place, this alowed me to catch giant Octopus, Nurse sharks, Barsking sharks, a sea serpent, a school of cod and to many orca men when the net was in place less then a year

these funnels a supported by a walkway paroled by solders and war animals along the map edge with a wall facing the map edge but open to the inner part of the map that forces the sea creatures to swim to the centre of the map and into the funnels.

 notes

1.I am using the Lfr mod as i also planed on hunting wild whales with javilin launches to kill wild whales the war animals are sabre-toothed cats and Megalina from the mod

2.i used dfhacks liquidds comand to wall of my map to increase ocean creatures spawn rate and fast dwarf to build it quickly as it is only an idea test and not a thought

This would have been brilliant for all those people who made merperson bone farms.

A very good obsession. Train it for battle; it shall be Dwarven kind's first submersible warship.

Sounds interesting.

Take command. Lead your men. Hide in booze stockpile. Weep, and everyone weeps with you.
Maybe we could export Yuli: "Succession fortress too stable? Too boring? Just get our Yuli VlasiTM!"

Walls. It looks like the animals are only visible from the inside of the net.

so did the war-animals with their windows actually work the way you designed it?

While adding magma to anything will make it dwarfy, adding the word "magma" to your post does not necessarily make it funny.

That is worth 0.5 aussie guys.

Now do it without the cheats in a succession game like you said.  ;D
