This is surprisingly addicting. Currently I do not own my own truck and am just hiring myself out to other companies, but the actual driving is fairly relaxing. Some day 'Take Your Load Inc' will rule the european shipping scene. I am quite sad that Sweden is not included though, would be fun to retrace some of my fathers old routes (he was a trucker). I have noticed a few things though.

1) Don't look too much at the scenery when travelling at high speeds. Just like in real life it is easy to loose track of the road if you do :p
2) I wish I had some kind of panorama screen setup, the lack of peripheral vision makes it dangerous at times. At the very least I would like to up the FOV drastically.
3) Some times I seem to get stuck on... nothing really. Weird.
4) Fuck bus drivers. When transporting some concrete to Lyon I had an asshole busdriver overtake me at breakneck speed, then slow down to 60 driving in front of me. After a few minutes of this I decided to just overtake him and be on my way, and as soon as I move out into the left field, so does he and he proceeds to speed away like he was being chased by skelks.

So its a universal thing. noone wants to speed, but they absolutely must be first

Just got enough money for my first truck, then immediatly took a run that netted me around $80k. Sold the truck immediatly and bought myself a Valiant F16H with 600hp. That thing can move, especially when it's not hitched to a trailer.

Valiant (Volvo) is the best starter and end-game truck. I myself prefer Scania because of its styling and interior (large GPS display FTW).

I agree with Valiant being the best and didn't know it was Volvo. My whole fleet is made up of Valiant right now, and I myself am driving a Mercedes.

Just gotta' throw my endorsement behind this game. Very fun in a Farming Simulator 2013 sort of way.
It is an amazing experience playing with my Driving Force GT and TrackIR. If you are looking for a purchase you will not regret and enjoy this game and any other simulator, spring for the trackir.

Apparently by default, all of the trucks use Scania(I think?) physics and gear ratios. So excepting power, shape and possibly weight, they all drive exactly the same. There is a mod out there to add more/different physics and gear ratios to the game to give some difference to the driving characteristics.

I am greatly enjoying sipping coffee and listening to either podcasts or Old Time Radio streams for drama and comedy programs. Bought my starter Valiant today and wandered off to Cardiff from Germany, good times.

I will say one thing about ETS that they screw up... I've been to parts of Europe simulated here... and NONE of the lanes are as wide as they are in this game. Hell, a lot of the country and older city roads are narrower than a single lane in this game.

I guess that's a compromise they had to do given how small their team is. I hope this series will continuous improve every installment.

So I'm curious, because the game's page talks about 'owning a fleet of trucks' and 'hiring drivers'.

Is this game entirely based around you driving, or do you send AI drivers out to and manage the company shipping, etc?

Mostly it's based around you taking jobs and driving them, however you can expand by paying for new trucks and hiring AI drivers who will find jobs on their own, haul them, gain experience and keep paying you money, so you can buy additional offices and trucks, rinse, repeat.

brand new AI drivers though, seems like they barely even break even... maybe they get better, but I'm making 20-30k per day for the company and the ai drivers are between 200 and 500 a day. And I'm not even sure if that counts the numerous times they can't find a load for whatever reason and have to go back empty.
