I'm almost done with the beginnings of a station hub in orbit. It will be a handy jumping off point for others.

for the sake of mapping and finding Kethane, is it possible to get mechjeb to do low-polar orbits, and if so, how?

Ascent autopilot: Set orbit to something like 80 Km, inclination to -90 if you want a south-north orbit 90 if you want a north south orbit.
For some reason Ascent AP just fucks up on inclination so you have to put a minus infront of the number to get a positive inclination and the other way to get a negative.

Station!

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The station has lots of living space for kerbals. It is in a low kerbin orbit at 100km. It has four docking ports around the rim and one at the bottom center which you can use to dock craft to or expand. The bit on top is the spacedock construction bay, mostly for looks. There is a nuclear reactor capable of recharging your craft, and lots of energy storage. If you want to change its orbit, dock a tug to the bottom center docking point and push. It weights ~80 tons all together.

The 1 key extends the solar panels (not shown).

So who is next?

100 Km? Thats crazy, 200 Km is better, its easier to rendevouz with and is less laggy, nonetheless, im all up for doing the next update.

My plans for my turn:

Dock a space tug to the Station and get it to a 200kmx200km orbit

You've no idea how difficult it was to get it even to 100km. Getting it higher was much simpler via assembling it at 100km and moving it up later. 100km is stable at least.

Mind the debris! I made no effort to clean up orbital debris because they're kind of fun to have and don't cause much lag anyway. You'll see how many launches this took. :P

I'll PM you the save.

No Modular Multiwheels or even CleverBobCat?

They are basically crucial to Kethane mining and Planetary exploration!

Damn, I forgot about cleverbobcat! I'll add them in.

Added those two. redownload the pack, same link. Its uploading now and should be up in ~2 minutes.

Ill add in them in manually to my save folder.

Spoiler: First batch of images (click to show/hide)

That core is basically a station in itself, its really monolithic. It dosent even really need any sort of expansion, atleast i cant really see any, besides the addition of a space tug.
Though with that weight, it might be almost impossible for my tug to move it. Im going to make a version of it without the winch to allow for an engine.

Other missions:
Kerbin GeoSurvey Bill - ISA Map Sattelite, to be put into a polar orbit at 90 Degrees inclination, around 75 Km
Kerbin GeoSurvey Bob - Kethane Detector, in same orbit
Deployment of Mary the light hauler airship, for tugging around things at KSC.

If possible i will also establish a Kethane mining operation on Kerbin, so we can have a refuelling station at KSC, for spaceplanes and such. It will be a longer thing wich i might first work on in another turn. I might deploy a heavy lift airship for refuelling landed spaceplanes, since not all spaceplanes would be compatible with the refuelling stations docking ports. Its a larger project that will take much more time than what i have right now so uhh yeah, another turn.

Well one thing I didn't add to the station due to weight constraints and space is a kethane refinery/refueling center. There is also no storage for fuel. Basically the station core is living area and power production, not much else. It doesn't even have RCS.

the pic are wonderful!

question: does it have random docking struts here and there?

There are 4 docking ports around the rim of the station which extend a bit from the surface, if that's what you mean. They're meant to be the main places that ships dock. The center docking port on the bottom was just for getting the station oriented and in the correct orbit, but you could dock there too.

or that could be the place where we construct the BIG ships, the ones requiring many, many trips to assemble.
