I say let's do it. we'd need to jump him. Have some of our undesirables find out where he sleeps, where he eats, what he does, his schedule. Use different cultists each time so he doesn't get suspicious.

Also have the cultists report to us the happenings of the city. Start an underground web. See if we can't catch anything good.

We should claim this place in the name of putribilus.  And we will.

I'd rather not risk the chance of us getting detected. No one cares about a beggar or a blind man wandering through the streets, but you see a colourful cloud floating about?

I want us to have eyes everywhere and the poor and homeless right now are the best net to cast.

You send out your cultists to terrorize a farm for either "donations" or just eat them. Despite the fact that you don't eat people, you poison them.
For now, at least.
Initiation rituals are not something Put thought of when creating you, but he was willing to look into it for you. The "cruel act for rank" is not something he likes, as the god of rage will get uppity over the plagiarism.
He also thinks it's a bit dumb, seeing how it would be preferable not to have complete nut-jobs in command over non-crazy people. So he's prefer something else.
He is capable of turning the higher-in-commands into demons. But you will need a lot of followers first.

After night has fallen, you head back into the town and gather up more cultists.
The search goes reasonable, your sweet talker and your magnificent "Evil Morgan Freeman" voice go a long way. You gain 12 followers. (roll=11 +2 compelling voice +2 good talker)
The one guy that wished to report to the guard was quickly taken care of. that pushes you over the threshold for a level up!

Level Up

Abilities

Dark presence: casting this curse over someone will cause any and all things that detect evil to go off on the victim. They may also take to darker paths. Rolling a 20 will gives the target a strength bonus and gives you the ability to jump into them at any time. It also removes the "may" from the sentence directly above this one.

Mark of Carnifex: Allows you to officially convert a person, giving them higher pain resistance and giving them a mark.

Rot Missile: fires off a blast of magic that causes appropriate magic. In your case, rot.

Heal and Harm: Gives you the ability to heal people who either follow you or are on the evil side of the alignments. Harms anyone who does not fit these parameters.

Almost solid form: Allows you to turn yourself into an illusion. You can pick your solid form if you take this ability. Note that this form cannot interact with anything.
It takes a lot of power to change your solid form, so choose wisely. I decided not to give you your snake form because it would look sort of silly. However, if you prefer the snake form you can keep it.

Perks

Devourer: Gives you the ability to feed off of dead corpses for a minor heal and energy boost when in a host body
Mental poison: Makes your poison inflict mental damage, and causes fear. This carries over to your solid form.
Empowering Presence: your followers gain a minor bonus to their willpower, and in some cases, gain some strength.
Necrotic air: Gives you the ability to slowly rot anything you touch. This can be turned off. This also carries over to your solid form's poison.

There should still be initiation rituals, but they should instead be set up to encourage the spread of corruption. Not an act of cruelty, but an act of conversion. New members must successfully tempt others into succumbing to one of the deadly sins; the more creative and definitive the temptation, the greater the status bestowed.

I kind of thought an initiation ritual would be good but in retrospect it's probably just easiest to mutate each of our new followers a little bit instead.  We've already been doing that and it actually has visible benefits.  As each person moves up in rank (which they would do by showing their loyalty, skills and accomplishing tasks), we will bestow upon them a new mutation until they become a full fledged demon.

Also. Let's start casting our web. Get our people out on the streets to eavesdrop, pick up useful information.
Get the cultists out there so we can start tracking the habits of important people, the the CotG and other various figureheads.

Who are some higher-up administrators?

Is there a way for us to link our own mind to that of our cultists?

Don't forget to start up the Death Rot farms.  Also try out our new "Mark of Carnifex" on our loser mage to see if it toughens him up a bit.

Not so sure...I'd rather have initiations be more ritualistic, you know? Since they're rituals? Maybe a little mutation on the side?

I'm going to say it again: mental poison can save our life and also help us to take over other people's bodies.

Also: -1 to initiation rituals, we need followers, we should make it easy to convert them, not dissuade them with rituals.
        +1 to try our new power with our recruited mage.
I take back the suggestion to scout by ourselves, let our followers do that, it actually feels good to have eyes and ears all over the city.
