Stand guard over him and have one of our group go look around for useful stuff in the tower like tools, weapons, spell books (once again necromancy or summoning would be great), wealth and potions.

When he wakes up, tell him we are the entity.  Say we possessed mongoose and that we will possess or kill him too if he does not cooperate.  (can we have him give us his soul?).  Ask him who the most powerful locals are, also ask about local adventurers and local monsters or threats to the town.  After the questions depending on his behavior we will decide what to do with him.  If we kill him it should be slow and painful.

After questions I'd like to do a couple quick things.  Look around for books or something that talks about legends.  Stuff about mythical weapons or artifacts that we could try and acquire at some point.  Then maybe let's ask our Mage guy if he knows anyone or a group of people nearby who might be interested in joining a cult.

Slow torture is too time consuming for us to indulge in, if we go that route, donate the body to science...

Boy, go look through the tower for anything useful. A fine fireball, by the way.
M-My name's Wander. Tribal father, don't ask. And, uh, sure. I can do that.
You bind the alchemist to the chair with some vines he had.
You look through his (not very large) library. Mostly different magical theories about how plants have innate magical essence, similar to humans. Looks like he was trying to acquire the 4th of the unattainables, gaining more matter then you started with.

T'is all silly, humans are incapable of even comprehending true magic. Any demons that explain it to a wizard end up with their soul, due to madness.
Very few legends are found, except something about some sort of white phial.
Then, the alchemist wakes up. He looks around, confused, and grumbling a bit.
Erghmmm...what? Oh. noooo. I hoped that this was the dream and the faery was reality.... Fine, Mongoose. You get whatever you wish, just let me go.
I am not Mongoose. You are talking to an entity, created by one of the gods quite recently.
His face lights up with a short smile, then sours when he fully realizes his predicament.
I-I would like to start off by telling you that I must thank you for taking care of Mongoose, and beg you not to take my soul. I can be usefull to you.... I assume you follow a good-aligned God?
I ask the questions here. I would like to ask you who is among the more powerfull locals, and did any adventurer parties get born in a recent time-span?
There's one adventurer party that recently wiped out one of the bigger annoyances for the town, as for powerful people you have the guard general. He's a tough son of a bitch. Literally! He's a dog-man.
What are the threats to the town. Any large monsters?
Well, we have the monthly increase in goblins, but the guards use them more as practice then see them as a threat. They bring loot to the dungeon, giving the town some economy, but traders have learned to stray a bit from this town. Removing the source would be very beneficial if you wish to please your lord and the townsfolk.
You also have the occasional troll roaming around. But those keep to themselves.

You are being very helpful, that just about guaranteed your continued life-span. A final question, would you know anyone who would be interested in joining a cult?
I suggest you search through the slums and ask the different beggers and such. They tend to be desperate for anything that gives them acceptance and food or power.
Good. I will see if I will free you later. Priestess, give him some salve for the foot. I don't know how fragile your kind is, so I won't take risks.

Wander just came back and said he just can't carry all of the useful things. The alchemy ingredients are all quite useful, even without mixing them. Not to mention the books on magical theory are useful to him.
Mortals never fail to amaze how well they can utilize useless information.
He also doesn't know about any groups, seeing how he wandered into the town looking for someone to take him in. The story behind it is irrelevant, so you did not ask.
Now what will we do?

He thinks we're a good aligned entity... not sure if we can actually leverage that at all.  Anyway, I guess keep the guy tied up for the time being.  Let him know we'll let him out later if he stays cooperative and ask him what skills he can put to use for us.  Go out and recruit some losers from the slums and bring them back to the tower which will serve as our base for now.  Also ask the priestess about what the best way to go and recruit the goblins would be (besides possessing their leader).  After we get some followers, start expanding the tower underground with tunnels and maybe start a minor crime organization so we can start gaining influence.  Find out about areas that have a lot of valuables or supplies.  We'll probably need lots of food, weapons and armor for our future recruits.

Oh and we might also want to get some better equipment for our host?

Maybe we could use illusion magic to disguise our host and get into different areas.

.....Perhaps. That could work. Depends on if the Random Number God is feeling like a dick or not.

I think that they 'want' us to be a good-aligned entity, and that they also seem quite motivated by fear. They will likely attack us as soon as they have the opportunity to do so, we should lay a trap for them if they are granted access to their alchemical supplies for any duration...

Also, teaching them true magic sounds like a really really fun thing to do...

Goblins for the goblin throne!

I like goblin deck in MTG. Who's to say that goblins won't work here? We just need about a thousand of the buggers.

His name is Wander, eh?...

Don't we have some other minions which could help our little wizard clear the place out?

You figure out your plan right quick, and ask how one would be able to take control over a goblin tribe.
Turn out, they prefer power and a guarantee for the safety of their woman and children. Taking down the tribe-leader in an honorable dual would grant control to the other warlord that does so.
Something other then a goblin doing a dual is unheard of, as most species prefer to use the smaller ones to beat the bigger ones to death with. Humans, elves, dwarves and the other smaller races just stab them.
It is allowed though, and honor commits goblins to not intervene. Interrupting a Head-bnag (Named after a naming misconception after goblins took over the universal language after the great god-war of Babel.) leads to summary nomsecution. In which the one who interrupted gets eaten alive along with everyone closely related to him. This caused for a funny cascade which ended up killing tons of goblins after a brother of one of the chiefs intervened.

You make a visit to the local bum population, and after offering some acceptance and other things you get a small group of 15 followers. They are practically useless, possessing very little in useable skills.
They are still good for prayer and basic manual labor.
You give them over to your priestess, who proceeds to do a sermon in which they get marked by her Staff.
And by marked, I mean she cuts them on the arm, partially rotting that piece of flesh and ,paradoxically, giving them enhanced strength in that arm.
It hurts like a motherfucker from the sounds of it, but they come around quickly after the perks become apparent.
It's nice, and Put's really happy. He's one of he nicer gods, really, once you look past the whole "feeds off sin and rot". Your cult gets to digging the tunnels you wanted, and your priestess is planning to give a sermon every morning.

Alright let's head out to recruit us some goblins.  Just take two cultists with us on our journey and leave the rest of our followers at the tower to continue straightening things up.  On the way out bring some money or stuff to sell so we can get some equipment.  We'll challenge the goblin chief when we get there and take over.  Then we can start having the goblins build tunnels from their base to connect with those under our tower base.

See if we can bring some gnomes or halflings to use as weapons.
