You gather up the villagers, and skip the speech in order for them to put together their defense. The defenses are too wide for the soldier's horses, at least, so you'll only have to deal with infantry if it comes to that.
The small army comes closer to the town, with a large ornate cart with some sort of enormous form in front. When they get close enough for you to see it clearly, you find out to your disgust that it's a human.
Sort of. He has purple skin and is fatter then a mortal body should allow. The most notable part about him is the fact that his are glowing yellow light. Well, assuming you can remove your eyes from the man-boobs. He first burps loudly and speaks with a sort of gurgling voice, as if choking on something.
We haven't received our tithe today. We will give you one chance to pay what is due to your lord. Give us the newcomers and you will be... spared. The creature pulls out a basket of sorts and starts gorging on something while the villagers stare in angered silence. The next things that happens is an arrow finding the fat thing's belly.
He explodes, covering the soldiers around him in pieces of viscera and his stomach contents. None of them seem to mind overmuch, except for the largest guy who predictably uses a hammer. He runs off to go vomit.
After that the soldiers attack. They don't take the defenses well, as pitchforks find them before they finish climbing over. They don't have much in the way of strategy at all, they're just charging forward waving a sword or mace.
The sheer numbers of soldiers overpower the pitch-fork wielding villagers, but they end up funneled in the thin streets so the villagers fight them off without much difficulty.
You climbed on a roof, joining the bow-wielding traveler and jump down on top of hammer-wielding guy. He falls to the ground, and the boots of the charging soldiers do the rest as you back up a bit.
You hold off the soldiers with some difficulty, until suddenly some flasks begin to drop from the roof. Seum is the thrower.
The flasks are filled with whatever he could mix up, it seems. Death-root extract, oil, powder... Wait.
You see him lighting a match, and rush towards the villagers as an explosion rocks the ground. You don't quite make it and fly past the villagers standing at the ends of the alleyway, clubs ready.
The fire remains for quite a while, and the soldiers need to back up a little. You go into gas form, float over the soldiers and rematerialise behind them. With quick attacks in the back you finish off the rest of the soldiers.
The rest of the soldiers just run away now. Absolutely no casualties have happened.
This is way, way too easy. There's probably something trapped here...
