Well, in Eldest, the fortifications held off some nasty monsters for a brief time, and they didn't have us, or Seum, or Wander.

Seum nearly falls out of his chair in shock when he sees you approach. A quick explanation of your possession convinces him to not ram a dagger in your sternum. You explanation of the tick, however, leaves him very worried.
The village elder told me that demons don't have a consistent form. They tend to take on appropriate forms though... If he's a leeching insect, it was probably a minor spawn. In that case, There's some majorly bad juju happening.
Specify bad juju.
Basically? A giant demon found an anchor in this world, and is busy spawning dozens of spawn every day. Most likely he's putting those into corpses, or they go to the demon world, invigorated by their short stay in the mortal realm.
Boring name for a hellish dimension.

Your suggestions for the defenses do not fall upon deaf ears, but there is simply nothing else that they can do. It's too late to continue working, and the guards could be arriving at any second.
You take the quiet moment to talk to Carnifex.
Ehhh, Yous noticed dat too? Yeh, dey's all be busy churnin' out whateveh shows off powah. Just two gods 'ain't doin' it. Yours truly n' de Creatah. But e's  a nuttah.
Do you think it has something to do with the prophecy? This anvil of creation worries me a bit.
Your god stops in his butchery and freezes. For the first time, he steps out of his shadow, allowing you to see his body.
He looks like a huge bloated corpse, sewn together wherever the skin burst. Enormous teeth, sticking out of his mouth. It's a sight that could drive a lesser mortal to insanity as his body ripples, twists, bleeds and sews itself together as it splits again and again.
Anvil o' creation? Ohhhh. Now we've go' a big problem. Armok is awakinin'.
A chill goes through your being as an all-consuming fear enters your mind. Armok, the god of blood. Before you panic completely however, your god waves his hand and gives you a piece of freshly chopped meat. The meat seems to melt on your tongue, and you are calmed immensely.
Right. 'Ere's da plan. Do yer quest with all ye can. The chosen 'un is important, and the mos' powerfoel member o' your group, but he's weak right now. His strength will gro'. But he's not necessary to complete it. If e' ever falls, yous in deep shit. You can finish da quest, thou'. Do everytin' you can.
Me entities will always help you now, no need for rivalry when everytin's at stake.

Carnifex steps back to his shadows, and gets back to work.

Night has arrived when you awake again. Guessing from the torches down the road, the soldiers are attacking.
What now?

Tell Seum that (the rest of) Putrilibex's entities are on our side now, so that we don't have an incident.

I think that the soldiers are all dead and are all possessed, we should kill this overlord as he is likely also possessed or IS the demon.

Do we really care about some local Evil? Still, they might have some Fun loot... Let's just make sure that we go into the final confrontation with as much cannon fodder as possible...

Also, this could gain us a more influence and allies, so we should take free the villagers.

You gather up the villagers, and skip the speech in order for them to put together their defense. The defenses are too wide for the soldier's horses, at least, so you'll only have to deal with infantry if it comes to that.
The small army comes closer to the town, with a large ornate cart with some sort of enormous form in front. When they get close enough for you to see it clearly, you find out to your disgust that it's a human.
Sort of. He has purple skin and is fatter then a mortal body should allow. The most notable part about him is the fact that his are glowing yellow light. Well, assuming you can remove your eyes from the man-boobs. He first burps loudly and speaks with a sort of gurgling voice, as if choking on something.

We haven't received our tithe today. We will give you one chance to pay what is due to your lord. Give us the newcomers and you will be... spared.
The creature pulls out a basket of sorts and starts gorging on something while the villagers stare in angered silence. The next things that happens is an arrow finding the fat thing's belly.
He explodes, covering the soldiers around him in pieces of viscera and his stomach contents. None of them seem to mind overmuch, except for the largest guy who predictably uses a hammer. He runs off to go vomit.
After that the soldiers attack. They don't take the defenses well, as pitchforks find them before they finish climbing over. They don't have much in the way of strategy at all, they're just charging forward waving a sword or mace.
The sheer numbers of soldiers overpower the pitch-fork wielding villagers, but they end up funneled in the thin streets so the villagers fight them off without much difficulty.

You climbed on a roof, joining the bow-wielding traveler and jump down on top of hammer-wielding guy. He falls to the ground, and the boots of the charging soldiers do the rest as you back up a bit.
You hold off the soldiers with some difficulty, until suddenly some flasks begin to drop from the roof. Seum is the thrower.
The flasks are filled with whatever he could mix up, it seems. Death-root extract, oil, powder... Wait.
You see him lighting a match, and rush towards the villagers as an explosion rocks the ground. You don't quite make it and fly past the villagers standing at the ends of the alleyway, clubs ready.
The fire remains for quite a while, and the soldiers need to back up a little. You go into gas form, float over the soldiers and rematerialise behind them.  With quick attacks in the back you finish off the rest of the soldiers.

The rest of the soldiers just run away now. Absolutely no casualties have happened.
This is way, way too easy. There's probably something trapped here...
