I think I figured out the trap.

The pedestal will crumble the entire upper platform, not just the cracked part, and also trigger the cannon, destroying the door and inflicting damage.

Also, I'm curious about something. Ask party whether they've ever bought anything from a shopkeeper before joining the party.
