We do. However, we also don't want to be eaten, either in a metaphorical sense of consuming soul charge, or actual cannibalism.

Perhaps the Ultimate Weapon is Desmond's Mask? After all, it doesn't have any sort of range limit. Think about it: if you manage to bind it (forcibly equip) to someone and run away, you can then use any of their minions (allies) as a voodoo doll from a safe distance as they would be forced to act as a meat-shield for your attacks.

I think it's safe to assume that it does have a range limit. I mean, Windirection doesn't actually mention a limit, but it doesn't seem like we can use it anywhere at any time.

Then again, it might be worth a try.

Perhaps, but Wind Direction is a spell which could likely have enormous penalties to use outside of line of sight and whatnot, it is something activated by the user. Comparatively, Desmond's Mask performs it's purpose automatically and doesn't seem to cast any kind of spell.

Though I admit, it's a longshot.

Historically, a target had a meaning other than something to aim at, it could also refer to a small shield of buckler. Perhaps Ciro is the Target because her existence shields something else?

What if, she is shielding the world from Oric's control? A buckler can't cover everything, but it can cover a small space, that space being the area around Ciro. It's protected because we can control her and precisely because we can control her, she can protect her surroundings from Oric's influence. By influencing Ciro's surroundings through her, we are derailing them and thus shielding them from Oric's control. We intruded into the void. We were what made Al a character rather than an NPC. We managed to form a truce with Proxxy who was meant to die.

So what are we? That, I'm not too sure of. Perhaps we are what remains of the slain Seraphs and FFS is The Last Seraphim? That would explain our influence on the world and why we are in it. Along with why it is Cain, the sinful traitor whose dungeon is able to use us as enemies and why Ecco, his pawn, is also able to summon us. Plus as long as TARGET is alive, this game continues, resulting in more players joining, or perhaps, or Seraph remnants becoming active.

As for "what are we?", I still think the answer is that we're the Astral Influx's secondary effect, since we've seen no evidence as to another secondary effect (Except maybe automatically shift PoV when current one dies), and we only took control once Ciro entered the Warrens, at which point he was near the Astral Influx. It also makes sense as far as the name goes, though it was created before the Warrens had any semblance of a plan.

No, but there's a number of ways that he could pretty easily ruin our attempt at immortality. DR piercing enemies come to mind, along with the possibility that there might be 2+ creatures, and that the mask will only autoguard one member. I can't think of any way to kill the Trollwarks, other than Al turning evil or something, but I'm sure FFS has at least one plan to destroy us with.
