It's like the difference between playing a version of dwarf fortress where forgotten beasts can show up at any time, anywhere on the map, and a dwarf fortress where every tick there's a 1% hard-coded chance of all your dwarves spontaneously dying.

  Still reading through, but a thought on Theorycrafting #5 from what I've seen up till post 1150:

a) You are looking at the level below, and seeing something down there glow. Maybe wisps, maybe something else.

b) It sorta reminds me of the background of Cains Dance Off... perhaps it's the shell of his prison?

d) It's a map of something, which kinda-sorta leads to

d.1) It's some form of a radar-like detection device- it'd explain how Proxxy knows where there is trouble, or how Betweenford detects cheating.

e) Inner Workings of the Warrens. You can even test this- shoot at it or drop something down that will go boom, see if it effects the dungeon in anyway. It also could possibly prove a) if you find a mysterious crater that the residents claim came from the sky.

f) It's like the layer you first met Betweenford in- you're not supposed to get in there, but it is still somewhere. Throw a impact explosive in, see if at a later point Betwwenford berates you or remarks on it.

Now, back to your regular shenanigans.

What if an action is entertaining to you but annoys others? Or if a counterproductive action will be "entertaining"?

  Still reading through, but a thought on Theorycrafting #5 from what I've seen up till post 1150:

I find it funny that FFS delivered on a theoretical self-suggestion. I should read these more often.

The answer to this dilemma was the Astral Influx. We get to switch characters by selecting them on it, cool! But, on the other hand, attempting to lighten the impact of game mechanics with character selection forces a hefty price upon the player. Let's say, for example, on Dungeon Level 4, long after recovering the Astral Influx, Riltia drops down a pit, and we have no contact with her whatsoever. One of the players says, "oh, that's fine, let's just tap her on the Influx and we'll see what she's doing!"

That player has just forced the players to play through Riltia's escape - assuming she does. Sure, we see what she's up to. We also lose all the other characters' cool loot and powers. Plus, we can't switch back to them without the Influx, and we can't get the Influx until we've manually solved Riltia's dilemma.

Also, note the fact that Oric dropped a Ring of Sexy into the Void, and we just so happen to find a Ring of Sexy in a Sub-DL. Perhaps correlating with my previosu theories of the sub-Dl's being part of the Vent structures in the Void.

The space between dungeon floors... could be Betweenford's brain. Which would tie into the whole "The Warrens are basically the Matrix and Betweenford is Agent Smith" theory.

Possible. Personally, I think "cheaters" refers to moving the ladder, and "slip-betweeners" was about us being between floors.

  Hmmm... interesting. So you're leaning towards theory e)Inner Workings. In which case, we should go back at some point and drop some sort of impact explosive down there to see what happens. For !!SCIENCE!!

  The fact that one of the times we saw through the floor was because of some form of damage implies that the Warrens are coming undone somehow. If so, it could also be part of the explanation as to why Oric wants the Target dead- they are part of the problem, if not the problem.

We know that it is possible to travel through the Sub-Ds, as Betweenford refers to them. I posit that the black void is a Sub-D, and the glowing bits of light are people traveling through them in the same manner Blue Chick did, appearing in one place and disappearing in another. Most of them are probably Illborn being spawned into rooms, but some of them are likely Betweenford's ilk, and possibly other Siblings as well.

I don't think it's right (it seems too simple, and probably incomplete.) My other thought is that the lights in the void have something to do with this choice Betweenford quote.



I bet if we knew what Lights he was referring to there, we'd know the answer to the theorycraft.

Hm...we really don't have anything to go on to figure out if those are connected, but if they are...
Where's the update where the lights were? I can't find it in monk12's index.
