Or maybe FFS didn't think about how many playable characters there could possibly be when he made the game over a year ago, and thought that 8 would be plenty.

We've already seen the influx level up once. What's to say that encountering a 9th character selectable by the influx wouldn't trigger another level up (accompanied by it's Second Shift getting stronger)?

DL1 probably doesn't have a boss, since it was really small.



Both unchecked doors are dead ends- one to the lava peninsula, one to the Astra Influx chest room.

I'm almost certain that DL5/6 are owned by Riltia and Al. After all, it wouldn't make much sense if they were the only Siblings without floors.

Not really. Appearance, I guess, but she had slightly less personality than we did. She was so undefined that our actions decided her allegiance!
Besides, if the boss of each DL is the level boss...it makes sense.

And of course she had design and dialogue. What kind of boss doesn't? (Besides, our silence was self-imposed. Being the original imposer, I should know.)

Well, she talked. She seemed kinda cheerful and trustworthy. Again, she had very little personality, but we had no personality. Also, she wasn't even on the floor until we activated that quest, which makes me suspect that she would've appeared on whichever floor we first activated a statue on.

Or maybe DL1 belongs to the Seraphim; but the Seraphim is no longer in control, so Oric uses the level as a tutorial/firstmurder level.

Ciro is the Last Seraphim.
We started on DL1, with some vague memories being the only proof we have that we were above ground previously. In Cain's story, The Thief ascended through the levels, and the Last Seraphim was on the top floor. Additionally, Al jumped into the Warrens (Maybe) because he heard someone scream, implying that he intended to help them. Once inside, he ended up staying there for a while (Read: Probably at least a century), before we came along, got killed, and he helped us. Oh, and what was the machine that was used to save our life, that one could call our sanctuary? The Last Seraphim's Sanctuary.

The Lord is the Last Seraphim, and Oric is the King.
The LS was attacked by Oric, the Thief, and made it his inferior, reducing her from king/queen/emperor/empress/whatever status to the status of Lord. Additionally, the transmitter we found on DL4, presumably of Angel origin, repeats:

"TRAINING'S OVER
BYE BYE OLD FORD
DOWN WITH THE KING
LONG LIVE THE LORD"

If someone murdered your master's siblings, threatened to kill your master herself, and then took over as your new master, there's bound to be someone angry enough to begin a revolution and try to kill the new master. This someone would appear to be Ecco, whoever left that transmitter (It's possible, if unlikely, it was left by Ecco), and/or whoever else is in on the uprising.
The King, of course, is Oric. He has the ability (If Cain isn't lying) to give absolute commands to anyone in the Warrens, with them being completely unable to refuse. He also has never been seen nor heard of getting his hands directly dirty since his rise to power. Rather, he uses his siblings, his angels, and his other minions to do the job for him. A real king would rarely give commands or appearances to the peasants, or lead his knights into battle. He'd give his commands to his Lords, Barons, and other nobles to relay them to the appropriate person, and do the job for him.
