Alternatively, we could shoot the plant through the chest.
I think for plants they're called thoraxes.

Oric's "this is going to be one of those cycles" upon seeing Proxxy with Ciro makes me suspect that Oric is afraid of Ciro learning more.

But in that case, why is he offering up plot information?

Then again, it seemed more like irritation than fear. Perhaps Oric knows that he will face the party on DL8, and wants to save time. In that case, the fact that he was merely irritated suggests that conventional tactics will not work against him and that the additional party member will only slow him down.

Hmm. I think I may compile a list of every single thing Oric has done, to aid future theorycrafters.

I think the cycles and plot information are freely offered because Oric knows that Ciro won't be able to stop the cycles... and by I won't I don't mean Ciro can't but something forces Ciro's decision.

I'm still convinced that the purpose of the cycle is so that Ciro accumulates Soul Charge. The problem with Soul Charge is that it is sort of a finite resource. Either you steal it from someone else or you convert emotional energy into Soul Charge. Meaning that unless someone becomes an emotional reservoir you only have so much of it.

Ciro's adventure of killing siblings and having near death experiences is there to create Soul Charge... more specifically to give Ciro a ton of Soul Charge.

And Oversoul Mode allows someone to transfer Soul Charge as we saw when Ciro fixed Riltia.

Perhaps the point of this is so that when Ciro reaches the end and finds the Over Soul, his only option is to pour his Soul Charge into the Over Soul which in turn starts the process over again. Ciro finally confronted with freedom chooses to recreate the prison.

For some reason I'm thinking of that Dr. Who episode, where people find out the truth and are given the choice to Forget it.

Like there's some big secret. Something to do with the Angels' Lord and Illborn. Maybe at the core of the Warrens is a corrupt soul. Something that needs Soul Charge... not to survive, but to placate it or keep it dormant.

And Ciro's only real option is to make the sacrifice to keep everyone alive or...

...perhaps something worse... perhaps in order to make said sacrifice Ciro's has to be willing to sacrifice everything he's gained.

Granted, even if Ciro wanted to; Oric knows Ciro can't stop the cycles normally. After thousand(s) of cycles, and Ciro dying in each of them, the death of the Target is a certainty.

basically this

If that's the only thing keeping the cycle going, we could just stash Ciro somewhere safe and use the Astral Influx to switch to other party members. I think there's something else.

Upend the empty chest and cover the plant with it.
+1

+1, most likely to result in us progressing without further loss of life. Then, walk over chest and through South door.
I think we should squish the plant by stomping on the chest.

Alternatively, we could shoot the plant through the chest.
We should not attempt bloodshape at this floor. (add that to the list of reasons we should leave this floor)

Cherish, ask Ripriver to levitate to the acid and grab it for us.

Your chest-flattening plan works flawlessly. The Oxiglob halfway deflates and can be used as a platform over the acid.

Ripriver grabs Cherish's hat and returns it to her. Watching their feet carefully, everyone heads South over the flattened Oxiglob.

You notice some writing on the south side of the room. You jump on the platform and read it upside-down:

WELCOME to the beta test of the
Oricsoft MEMOR-E System! Now you
can re-live Oric's finest moments
with new Active Memory™ technology!
Find Memory Cartridges on previously
cleared Dungeon Levels to get started.

...Nothing else to do here unless you want to experiment. What next?

Spellbook. Slot. Make it happen.

Given that there's the symbol of the Astral Influx on there, I'd assume that it has other meanings than just the Target's insignia.

-1 to inserting spellbook into slot. Too valuable
Insert rug into the slot instead

Also, I had the feeling that the Astral Influx's symbol was also the generic symbol for a soul.

I bet.

Blow into slots. Wait, that's with the cartridges, isn't it? Oh well, I'll probably forget the joke by the time we find one.

I think I'm willing to take this room at face value. More reasons to Checkpoint backwards, whee!

Head East for now, though. Let's go until we can't anymore.

I assume that these are how we're going to learn about the events of previous cycles.
