This is kind of what I'm imagining for either future Warrens or another forum game after Warrens. I'd LOVE to emulate he pseudo-3D style of Paper Mario games (after all, they have a significant impact on all my games and art). The image you see is a quick mock-up - I did a larger, less complete room for the final part of DL2, but as I already noted, it was discarded.

Hmmm. I think I might could break it down to give you a better idea.

Enemy/character models: significantly longer. The art style in Warrens is so ridiculously simple that the only way I could make anything faster is to use literal stick figures. If I were to do this, I would use mostly the same 2d characters you see now. The only potential differences are if I used an occasional 3D model (for bosses or other really dramatic stuff) or made the images be 2D planes with the sprites as textures.

Room creation: a bit longer, but this would be the whole point: opening up the game for even more visual gags and similar interactivity. While the top-down style for the rooms currently "works," I think it would be a lot more immersive to have the characters followed around a 3D room. Speaking of which!

Camerawork: I currently have no idea what I'm doing with this. The room you see there has no fourth wall - as in, it wasn't modeled, and the camera is pointed at where it would be. I think a lot of games with this style do this. It might also be cool to literally follow Ciro around (that's something you can do in Blender).

Effects: A potential slowdown. I could either build the effects into the sprites like I normally do or model them (a lot more impressive-looking but slower until I figure out how to do it quickly).

Workflow: The largest potential slowdown. If I needed to superimpose an ever-changing GUI like we have now, I would have to first export the image from Blender, open it up somewhere else and then add the interface on top of it. With how often I edit images and how many I make, this could be a significant source of slowdown. The workflow for that one image involved Blender, Photoshop and Flash. I think the style would only be doable if I removed to GUI entirely or did something else to make the images "blender-only."

Basically it would all be a matter of learning shortcuts and techniques that would speed up the process (just like I did after using Flash for months to make Warrens panels very quickly).

If we focus our shots, we can kill the big wisp within a turn or two. Guaranteed 8-16 damage to the big wisp from the Ice Spell alone.

Seriously, we have SO MUCH ICE AND RANGED WEAPONRY. For this express purpose. Worst case scenario... well I guess WORST case scenario is that we miss every time and the little Wisps fry us, but we probably wouldn't die from that, so we retain the option of Spanish Inquisitioning this bitch. More likely we do a lot of damage right away and force the Wisps on the defensive, kill the little guys when the Big one jumps and then mop him up when he lands.

(Icicle Flurry: 3+2 Position) Goom-bess tries casting Icicle Flurry but just ends up turned around. (Attack: 14-2 Position, 2*2) (Attack: 19+2 Position, 1+1) You launch an all-out assault on the Big Wisp, nailing him with two energized Blood Shotgun bullets. Cherish is forced to enter Melee Range due to the Icy Shaft not being a medium-range weapon, but she gives it her best shot anyway, playing off the Big Wisp's weakness to Ice.



(Grab: 18) (Attacks: 4,4,4 (lol, max damage all dice)) The smaller Wisps easily undo all the damage you just did. The Big Wisp, now able to reach Cherish, lifts her into the air, rendering her helpless.

The way the wisp is holding Cherish implies she has one free hand! therefore she should start bapping it's thumb with the staff and hope she doesn't fall off the platform.

I agree that we're unlikely to be able to straight up murder Big Wisp while he has all that healing (and I question the wisdom of firing highly deadly ice bolts at an enemy holding a party member,) but Goombess shouldn't waste an Ice Flurry on a little Wisp- it's too expensive for blowing up the little guys.

Cherish: Activate Helmet Mode (and smack Big Wisp with stick if additional action is possible)
Ciro: Fire at Bottom Wisp
Goombess: Stomp bottom Wisp.

Hopefully Cherish's helmet/passive ability will protect her from lethal harm. And hopefully the Big Wisp will drop her after doing whatever nasty thing he's planning.

Also hopefully Cherish activating her helmet will make it show up on her character model :3
