Hey! FFS, what should I add next?
RPG ELEMENTS
Heck, I'll program you EXP and a level up menu you if you hand me the game maker file.
snip

I'd put my hand up, but considering I'm working on
-writing for Spearbreakers
-Bay 12 RPG, or at least will be as of now, as my exams are finished
-a mysterious secret project

I fear i'd have too little time. Plus I suck at most things RPG Maker besides actually eventing and scripting.

Time to necro a certain thread.

Well, update on that RPG maker I found that's free.
There's some problems.

The reason for this is because it's user-friendly, too user-friendly, as in, most of the stuff is already built in for you.
Which is bad for many reasons.

The inventory system is pre-made, and has infinite space, which does not work well with the patented OricSoftR Inventory Mismanagement SystemTM.

The game assumes that you level up, and has pre-set stats.
Ha ha, ha ha.

The game assumes you want to run it in real-time, not turn based.
Don't even get me started.

I'm sure that there are ways around all of these issues, but it will take time, and research.

Another good thing is that the custom sprite editor is not dis-similar from that of Game Maker, so I should be able to make a spiffy lookin' Ciro and Riltia without too much of a hassle.

Another good thing, probably the biggest good thing is what it does best, and what TWoOtA needs, a good conversation tree system.
If I want this to be a real game in spirit, then by golly, it better have multiple story paths. After all, FFS himself said that he had fully prepared for the concept of us murdering Riltia when we first came across her.
And I want as many options as possible.

Ok, After looking though everything, and checking on the internets, I've discovered that attempting to make a turn-based game with a grid (All the turn-based garbage is Final Fantasy based, dang it!) is practically impossible unless you actually know some form of a coding language. I don't.

So if you want a good RPG game of this, you'll need someone else to do it, unless someone can find me a tutorial on how to code like a genius, which I'm kind of doubting. I don't really think I can self-teach myself something that is college-level.

Also, bump.

Sorry, I was going to warn you.

Good, easy: extremely high-end SDKs like one might see in a real dev studio.
Easy, free: simple "game maker" or "rpg maker" software that's great at doing some things and horrible at doing others.
Good, free: http://www.cplusplus.com/doc/tutorial/

Also see my explanations in the MKW:SS ooc if you don't know why this isn't updating at the moment.

I know why it's not updating, I was waiting on your reply to what programs you were going to recommend, but then I found out about the truth of the matter.

Well, Imma reread the thread now.

Me too, found out while still rereading thread, found some things that are hilarious.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Also, from FFS.

((Glowy only shows up when you ask why he's not there. Then he disappears again. I deem this a game mechanic.))

Wonder where Glowy has been all this time.

Or, you know, you could have someone who is a coding genius work with you. Wink wink, nudge nudge.

Hmm... If there was a way to make it in such a way that I would be able to tweak it when adding in new things, maybe.
I just prefer to do things myself, is all. No offence, but I'd rather have a way for me to do the bulk of the work. I have a way of doing things that isn't very team-friendly, and I tend to keep tons of notes in my head, and I'm bad at explaining things to other people.

Heck, just typing up this message strains my brain.

Good, free: http://www.cplusplus.com/doc/tutorial/

Flash and JavaScript are much easier than that.  For a free Flash editor, see FlashDevelop.  (Doesn't edit FLA files, sorry; it has its own project file format, but it does make .swf files.)

This entire forum game is made in Flash, so you don't need to tell me that. Unfortunately, Flash isn't as good as most languages/APIs for actual desktop-level games (which is what MC seems to want).
