When Ciro coughed blood, it was a bit of a surprise.
I think this is because Cherish is still in possession of our soul star. Ciro said it felt like someone has stabbed her in the heart; which suggests a Soul Star involvement.

I think Cherish/Proxxy is messing with our Astral Influx menus. They might even be leeching our Soul Charge for their own!

Because Cherish is the one handling our Soul Star, it is damaging us.
Proxxy seems quite disturbed by Cherish owning two Soul Stars, that handling them is dangerous; but to whom? Cherish has not been harmed in any way by handling our Soul Star, so it is hurting Ciro.
Ciro is obviously being hurt by Cherish handling Ciro's soul star; which may or may not be dangerous to both parties handling it.
It is effectively our soul she is handling... Quite dangerous if she tripped on her cape or something.

If we guard, we're just letting the met get more hits on us, considering it can do long range attacks itself.
Thus I think the way forward is to give slog the scanner, pick up the rifle, and shoot at the met, as ciro, for AL to see about treating Riltia's damage if possible, for Riltia to block, and for slog to just uh.. I guess try to treat its own damage??

BUT THEY'RE BLOCKING NEXT TURN. The only time we can attack is when they're about to attack, and they just finished attacking, so they'll spend this turn blocking. THEREFORE, it'll be absolutely useless to try and attack. It'd just waste time.

So what's your plan, then?
You're also assuming that block = invulnerable.

In the case of Mets, they're nigh invulnerable while blocking. Invulnerable in Mega's world, Nigh in Ciro's.

To do out inventory swapping with Slog, and try to recover HP. Or Just hang out.

And then what? We need to guard next turn so Ciro doesn't die, and if they're not attacking they're guarding. Anyways, since one of your plans is to hang out and do nothing, what can be lost by trying to attack?

while I do understand their mechanics (I think) I prefer to stay out of the whole combat debate, as things get decently heated when characters start getting put in danger .

Here's some shit nobody cares about I had lying around. I don't feel any of this is a big spoiler since most of it went unused. Sorry for the slow updates once again, this'll be my last post before the next big update.

Did you know? At many points during Warrens' production, I attempted to redo the map sprites' style altogether. Updates to the art style were mentioned several times throughout the game, but the only thing that came of them was fancier portraits and a nicer dungeon map system. The main reason I dropped the big art upgrade altogether was due to the time requirement. With the current minimalistic art style, I can "imply" part of the action, but the new style would require sprites for every feasible action to look good. Of course, now that I'm running Change of Scenery, I'll be doing that anyway, but ACoS has never been known for ridonkulous update speed.

The art style you see above with Riltia was re-used for Mega Man's sprite set.

Take a look at the image url of the scene above. The image is named "sed41.png." Normally I upload to imgur, but when imgur is down, I use postimage which reveals the original names of uploaded files. A large portion of the image names in warrens start with the letters "sed," but what IS sed?

Sed stands for Self Extending Dungeon, AKA the prototype name for Warrens. This is because the game's original concept really was just "guy exploring randomly generated dungeon." However, the concept of the "Self Extending Dungeon" carries a more sinister undertone that we have not yet seen.



Similarly, I initially used the prototype name "Olexa" for Proxxy before deciding I liked the theme name instead of the randomly-generated one. Proxxy is catchy, after all.

What other prototype names were in Warrens?

Al: "Citizen," "Art"
Cain: "Nero"
Cherish: "Village Lady"

As may be obvious, Al and Cherish were never intended to be a part of the story anyway. The players recruiting and then playing as Al was a surprising de-rail for the story.

These were the original concept drawings for the five major bosses that I made near the start of the game. None of them ended up being used "as-is" except for Proxxy (who did have a name change). Bits and pieces of each design were recycled throughout the game, though.

Obviously the old designs were a lot more "sinister." Why change them? The main reason is I never wanted Warrens to be a story about good triumphing against obvious evil. There's shades of "evil" in every major player's motives but, for the most part, every character has goals and intentions that real people could feasibly have rather than comic book villains. The new Sibling designs are more sympathetic, and I think they help relate the Siblings to our main "hero."



Oric himself went through many, many concept sketches before settling on the design we saw when we first met him. The sketch you see above was his design for a long time: a parallel of Ciro, withered and cynical, hooked up to some kind of large mechanism through a series of wires. This is the design we saw back during Riltia's death: a very ambiguous figure with either some sort of braided ponytail or wires off the back of his/her head. As I didn't want to make this even more confusing than it already is, this design was partially recycled for Oric's right-hand assistant, Spira.
